AQUATICS & SAFETYLearn to swim with Lakeville Area Community Ed!
Our caring and dedicated instructors are Red Cross trained and certified to help your child enjoy developing
swimming and water safety skills in a positive learning environment. Safety topics are included in all classes: basic
water safety, healthy swimming, safe water entry, helping yourself and others in an emergency, and safe weather
conditions for swimming. Pre-requisite for each level is the mastery of skills from the preceding level or equivalent
skills. Each child is provided with a skill assessment within the first two classes to determine appropriate level
placement. Each student receives a progress report at the middle of the session and at the end of the session. It is
common for a child to repeat a level before mastering all skills. Semi-Private lessons must register 2 swimmers and
it is recommended the students are at a similar skill level.

For complete class descriptions and comparison of levels to other swim programs,

EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATIONWelcome to ECFE

Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is a Lakeville Area School
District Community Education program that strengthens families with
young children through education and support.

The components of most classes are:

1. Growing Together: For You and Your Child
Half of each class is devoted to activities planned by a licensed early childhood teacher for parents and children to
explore together. Together you can enjoy learning through art, music, stories and a variety of developmental activities.
It is an opportunity to learn new ideas, games and activities that you can do at home.

2. Growing Independently: For Your Child
The remaining portion of each class is for children to have fun learning through play using art, movement, games and
stories with the early childhood teacher, the classroom assistant and the other children. New friendships are formed
and children discover new aspects of “me” while they learn apart from you. The goal of the children’s program is to
develop a healthy self-concept and a joy of learning.

3. Growing Confidently: For You
While children take part in the children’s program,
parents join with other parents in an informal
group setting for discussion time led by a licensed
parent educator. The challenges of being a parent are
enjoyable, complex, and, at times, stressful. Parents
have the opportunity to choose and discuss current
family topics, share ideas and concerns and feel
encouraged by the support of others.

What is Early Childhood Screening? EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATION

Early Childhood Screening (ECS) is a FREE developmental
screening required for all preschool-age children by the State
of Minnesota. It includes a developmental screening and a
vision, hearing, height, weight and immunization review.
Early childhood developmental screening helps a school
district identify children who may benefit from district and
community resources available to help in their development.
Early childhood developmental screening includes a vision
screening that helps detect potential eye problems but is not a
substitute for a comprehensive eye exam.

ECS is required for every child entering kindergarten. In
order for your child to start kindergarten in any Minnesota
public school, you will need to provide proof of ECS.

Time for Screening? Key Information:

Is your child 3 years old? Then it is time for ECS! • Screening is held on Tuesdays and a few Mondays during the

• Appointments are for parent and child together and take
approximately 45 – 60 minutes.

• Screening is held at Crystal Lake Education Center, 16250
Ipava Ave.

• You will receive a summary sheet and the forms will be sent to
your child’s elementary school before entering kindergarten.

• Questions? Call Tess at 952-232-3006.
