earned the respect and praise of many of the world’s top road racers over
the years, and the X-Fourteen is the next generation of this high-performance
pedigree. Developed using rider input from the world’s top road racing
athletes like Marc Marquez and Bradley Smith, careful consideration was
given to every detail of the X-Fourteen.
Technology continues to progress every aspect of a racer’s equipment, and
the X-Fourteen’s next-level features set the new standard for performance,
adjustability, and safety that today’s world-class athletes can trust all the
way to the podium.

S TAT E - O F - T H E - A R T
AERODYNAMICS

Ask any engineer in the racing paddock, and they’ll tell you that one of
the most important considerations in motorcycle design - the difference
between winning and losing - is aerodynamics. The state-of-the-art wind
tunnel facility at SHOEI’s Ibariki factory is an integral part of the helmet
development process, and it was here that the aerodynamic performance
of the X-Fourteen was born. Placing an emphasis on aerodynamic optimi-
zation in racing’s numerous riding positions, SHOEI engineers achieved
the most aerodynamic and stable X-Series helmet yet.
The X-Fourteen showcases an advanced shell shape, along with a
completely redesigned Rear Stabilizer. The Patent-Pending Rear Stabilizer
system features a standard set of Rear Flaps that can be replaced with an
optional, narrower set of flaps to help fine-tune resistance and aerody-
namic performance depending on rider preference and track demands.
In addition, strategically placed ridges along the top of the shell and chin
bar allow wind to stream off the helmet with minimal resistance, ultimately
reducing drag and improving stability. Add to the mix a removable Lower
Air Spoiler that can be affixed to the chin bar to further improve aerody-
namic stabilization, and you’re left with the new standard for high-speed
performance.

VENTILATION - A NEW STANDARD

CHEEK PAD COOLING SYSTEM
Next-level ventilation performance was a top priority when SHOEI engineers conceptualized the X-Fourteen. Boasting
six air intakes and six exhaust outlets - all strategically shaped and located to maximize airflow and negative air
pressure suction to the rear of the helmet - the X-Fourteen’s ventilating prowess is second to none.
The X-Fourteen’s high performance cheek pad cooling system delivers refreshing air to the rider’s cheek area, thanks
to channels cut through the EPS liner and corresponding air holes located in the cheek pad foam. Combined with the
newly positioned side air outlets (moved rearward to optimized hot air expulsion), the X-Fourteen’s ventilation system
cools and clears warm, humid air from the rider’s face with great efficiency.
Further enhancing the X-Fourteen’s advanced racing characteristics, the entire ventilation system has been optimized
in SHOEI’s wind tunnel to excel when in the tucked racing position, even behind windscreens.

SHIELD TAB The X-Fourteen’s CWR-F race shield provides a vast field of vision that today’s
and LOCK top racers demand. Innovative ribs on the top and bottom edge of the shield
improve rigidity and eliminate the bending effect that may occur from wind
pressure during high-speed riding, and the all-new double shield locking mech-
VORTEX anism prevents potential unwanted shield openings in the event of an accident.
GENERATORS The CWR-F race shield also features SHOEI’s exclusive patent-pending Vortex
Generators, which effectively reduce air friction and improve airflow around the
helmet’s surface. CWR-F race shields provide a flat surface to accommodate
racing tearoffs, and the newly designed tearoff posts allow for tension to be
adjusted without tools for a quick and easy installation.

EASY-ADJUSTMENT Coupled with the CWR-F race shield, the X-Fourteen’s innovative QR-E base

HIGHLY ADJUSTABLE INTERIOR

The X-Fourteen is equipped with a fully removable, washable, replaceable, and adjustable 3D Max-Dry
Custom Interior System. SHOEI’s exclusive Max-Dry liner material absorbs and dissipates sweat and moisture
twice as fast as traditional nylon interiors, and in combination with the X-Fourteen’s superior ventilation
system, keeps racers and aggressive riders alike cool and dry during intense riding sessions.
The 3D center pad components are three-dimensionally shaped to match the contours of a rider’s head,
allowing for an extremely comfortable fit while maintaining the firm hold necessary for distraction-free, high-
speed racing. Additionally, the X-Fourteen’s 3D Max-Dry Custom Interior System allows riders the opportunity
to replace each section of the center pad with optional thicknesses for a completely customizable fit.
The star of the X-Fourteen’s 3D Max-Dry Custom Interior System is the all-new, patent pending rotating liner
components, which allow riders to adjust the position/angle of the helmet by up to four degrees (see image
above) to increase the upper field of vision while tucked in extreme racing positions.
The SHOEI X-Fourteen also includes ear pads, a removable breath guard, and chin curtain to complete the
comfort package.

DUAL-LAYER/MULTI-DENSITY EPS LINER

The X-Fourteen’s Dual-Layer, Multi-Density EPS liner provides enhanced impact
absorption by utilizing varying densities of foam in key areas around the rider’s
head; it is also designed to allow cooling air to travel unrestricted through tun-
nels created in the EPS, further enhancing the X-Fourteen’s superior ventilation
characteristics. In addition to enhanced impact absorption and ventilation, the
precise placement of multi-density EPS liner material yields a more compact,
lightweight design.

The Evolution of Perfection

Since its introduction with the RF-102, SHOEI’s RF series
has evolved through significant changes as a leading
sport model helmet. Years of development, wind tunnel
testing, and on-track rider feedback have contributed
greatly to this model’s growth. It is with great pride and
confidence that we present the SHOEI RF-1200®.

Slim & Light

One of the most important features of a quality helmet is that you hardly
know it’s there protecting your head. SHOEI has reduced the weight of
the RF-1200® by using a slimmer design and building a distinct line into
the side of the helmet that also serves as an accent. As a result, the
SHOEI RF-1200® is lighter than any other Snell certified helmet in
the current SHOEI lineup.

Shell Construction

The slim design of the SHOEI RF-1200®, with its distinct accent cut line,
widens the bottom of the helmet to help ease the process of putting the
helmet on or off. Further advancing the comfort of the AIM+ shell is the
industry leading four shell sizes that the SHOEI RF-1200® comes in.

Extensive wind tunnel testing helps SHOEI realize a practical
aerodynamic shape that limits the lift and shake that high speeds
commonly create while riding. The slim, aerodynamic design
developed through wind tunnel testing lessens the load on the
rider’s neck and creates a more comfortable riding experience.

Quietness

The SHOEI RF-1200® has achieved a new level in the reduction of wind noise. Through advancements
in the aerodynamic shape, improved interior liners, and an improved shield system, the rider will
enjoy a very quiet and comfortable riding experience.
The 3D-shaped interior of the RF-1200® has achieved a balance of a
comfortably soft fit and a firm, stable hold. The removable
cheek pads utilize soft polyurethane foam, covering six
layers of hard polyurethane to reduce shaking. The bottom
of the cheek pads feature a high volume design, filling in
the distinct and aggressive accent line of the shell of the
helmet, comfortably forming to the riders neck and
blocking wind from entering the helmet. The multi-layer
cheek pads also improve the range of motion in the neck,
thus helping the rider to check traffic behind him or her.

Shield System

The RF-1200® features a shield system that continues to
offer the rider the best in optical performance. The CWR-1
Pinlock® shield features ribs on the top and bottom of the
shield to improve rigidity and eliminate bending of the
shield caused by wind pressure or the opening and closing
of the shield. Independent beading on the top and sides
of the helmet help to keep the seal of the shield tight and
eliminate any excess air.
In addition to the CWR-1 shield, SHOEI has developed an
updated base plate for the RF-1200®. The QR-E base plate
is spring-loaded and pulls the shield back onto the helmet’s
window beading, sealing it tightly with strengthened springs
to guard against wind and rain. The addition of a new five-
stage rotating dial allows for fine tuning of the base plate
for easy shield sealing adjustments.

Ventilation

Rigorous wind tunnel testing and development has resulted in the improved ventilation of the RF-1200®.
A large lower three position vent, three upper air intake vents, and four uniquely positioned upper
exhaust outlet vents combine with the Dual-Layer/Multi-Density EPS liner to allow cooling air to travel
unrestricted through tunnels created in the EPS liner, while also allowing for a more compact,
lightweight design.

between on- and off-road form and function. Designed to maintain peak

touring, the Hornet X2 is a true all-road, all-weather helmet.

DESIGN CONCEPT

SHOEI’s Hornet X2 is a hybrid of a premium road and off-road helmet.
The shape of the mouthpiece and chin bar area is designed to improve air
intake and ventilation performance, while giving the rider additional air
space needed to accommodate heavy breathing during off-road riding.
Improving on the traditional off-road mouthpiece, the Hornet X2 provides
additional protection in the event of adverse weather. A multi-stage lower
vent shutter allows riders to fine tune airflow for most riding conditions.

Using technology from SHOEI’s racing helmets, the Hornet X2 is equipped
with the Emergency Quick Release System (E.Q.R.S.)+ that allows emergency Pull Tabs
medical personnel to easily remove the cheek pads from an injured rider’s
helmet, thus allowing the helmet to be safely lifted from the head without
creating unnecessary neck strain.

V-460 VISOR

The Hornet X2 has spent hours of development, both
on the road and in SHOEI’s wind tunnel, to achieve the
proper balance between aerodynamics and traditional visor
functionality. Strategically placed vent louvers work with
an innovative wedge shape to allow wind to pass through
unobstructed, reducing drag and lift at high speed. Air
is pushed into the helmet’s upper air intake for optimal
cooling. Quarter-turn screws allow for quick and easy
tool-less removal and installation.

3D MAX-DRY SYSTEM II INTERIOR

The Hornet X2 is equipped with a fully removable,
washable, and replaceable 3D Max-Dry System II
interior. SHOEI’s exclusive Max-Dry System II liner
material absorbs and dissipates sweat and moisture
twice as fast as traditional nylon interiors, making it REMOVABLE EAR PADS
ideal for long riding days. The 3D center pad components are three-
dimensionally shaped to match the contours of the head, providing a
firm yet comfortable fit. 3D-shaped multi-layer cheek pads are also
available in multiple thicknesses for a fully customizable fit.

VENTILATION PERFORMANCE

In designing the Hornet X2, SHOEI utilized its state-of-the-art

MOTION ENERGY DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

The proprietary, SHOEI-exclusive Motion Energy Distribution System (M.E.D.S.) features
a dual-layer, multi-density EPS liner that, in addition to preserving the lightweight,
impact-absorbing characteristics of SHOEI’s traditional EPS systems, has been specially
engineered to reduce rotational acceleration energy to the head in the event of an
accident. Anchored by a larger center column, the inner layer of the dual-layer system
swings during impact, allowing its three strategically-designed perimeter columns to
absorb the energy. The end result is a significant reduction of rotational forces to the

SHELL DESIGN

The all-new V-470 visor has been specially designed
to flow with the styling and funtionality of the VFX-EVO’s
aggressive new shell shape. With a massive field of vision
and optimal roost protection still top priorities, the V-470 has
been engineered to utilize the highest point of adjustability as its standard
“home” position. Though aligning seamlessly with the shape of the shell when
at the highest point, the V-470 also features a new flange mechanism to easily
find the home position (even while wearing the helmet), and also helps to

MOUTH PIECE AND CHIN BAR

Wind-tunnel refined and featuring larger openings to optimize the
ability to pull cooling air in through the chin bar of the helmet, the
VFX-EVO’s mouthpiece is equal parts style, functionality, and safety.
Reinforced by a strategically-placed strip of AIM+ shell material, the
mouthpiece also features an aluminum mesh screen and a removable,
washable foam filter to help prevent roost, rocks, mud, and dust from
entering the helmet. The entire chin bar of the VFX-EVO features high-
quality EPS liner material for enhanced impact absorption.

3D MAX DRY INTERIOR SYSTEM

The VFX-EVO is equipped with a fully removable, washable, replaceable,
and adjustable 3D Max-Dry Interior System. SHOEI’s exclusive Max-Dry
liner material absorbs and dissipates sweat and moisture twice as fast as
traditional nylon interiors, and in combination with the VFX-EVO’s superior
ventilation system, keeps racers and aggressive riders alike cool and dry
during intense riding sessions. In addition to the Max-Dry material utilized
on the forehead and cheek area, a soft yet durable fabric is applied to the
lower part of the cheek pads for a plusher overall fit and feel.
The VFX-EVO’s 3D center pad components are three-dimensionally shaped to
match the contours of a rider’s head, allowing for an extremely comfortable
fit while maintaining the firm hold necessary for distraction-free, aggressive
riding and racing. Additionally, the VFX-EVO’s 3D center pads and multi-layer
cheek pads are available in different thicknesses for a customizable fit.

EMERGENCY QUICK-RELEASE SYSTEM (E.Q.R.S.)

Borrowing technology originally developed for SHOEI’s groundbreaking VFX-W and X-Twelve

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY The RPHA series, which includes the RPHA 11 PRO,

RPHA 90, and RPHA 70ST, delivers on the promise of

helmets feature HJC’s Premium Integrated Matrix (PIM)
