The Rancho Mirage Public Library is a cultural center for our City and far beyond. It has been carefully constructed for
the comfort and intellectual support of our residents and the entire Coachella Valley. The Library staff is welcoming
and devoted to lifelong learning. The Library has been called a “House of Ideas,” where discoveries are frequent,
where research is ever present, and where the Library is open for lifelong learning 300 days each year. Over 800 of
your neighbors visit and enjoy the Rancho Mirage Public Library daily. Our Library is one of California’s busiest
and most popular. The Library’s patrons range from newborns to seniors, with interests and needs as varied as the
Library’s remarkable resources.

The Library is well-funded for daily operations and services by a very supportive City Council. The objective of the
Library Foundation is to add additional support from appreciative donors who value the intellectual vitality the
Library adds to community life. Gifts to the Foundation are used solely to purchase books and media, to fund the
full calendar of programming for all ages, and to support the Summer Reading Club for children.

With the CREATE YOUR LITERARY LEGACY program, the Library Foundation recognizes that you may

want to make a lasting gift, giving your name or a loved one’s name a permanent place in this outstanding Library.
You may choose to name a book, a favorite subject area, or a series of events. You might consider naming a Library
chair, a public space, a collection, or something special for children in the Library.

Please contact Library Director David Bryant at 760-341-7323, ext. 700 with any questions about the Foundation’s

CREATE YOUR LITERARY LEGACY program. The Foundation is excited about this path that embraces

current and long-term fiscal needs while inviting you to become part of the Library’s LITERARY LEGACY.

Thank you,

Diane Sagan, Chair
Rancho Mirage Public Library Foundation

BOOK OR MEDIA COLLECTIONS

Naming a collection is a gift that grows, as books or media are added to the Library on an ongoing basis. When
funds are contributed, the donor’s name or the name of the person being honored will be mounted to the Library’s
book case end panels and placed as a bookplate on every volume in the named collection. If films or music are your
passion, similar naming opportunities for subject areas of DVDs, music genres on CD, and audio books are also
available. A named collection is an enduring presence in the Library. It can be YOUR LITERARY LEGACY.

Books

One Book — $50
Three Books — $150

The Library serves hundreds of children and their families. Storytelling, crafts, book discussion groups for kids,
and programming for families are all directed to “raising readers.” The Children’s Room is the place where lifelong
learning through reading begins. There are many naming opportunities in the Children’s Room: collections, chairs,

Adding a tile to the wall of the Children’s Storytime Theater puts a child’s name in that permanent location and
makes a unique gift to the Library in honor of that child, family member or neighbor. There are many ways to

THE COMMUNITY ROOM

The Library Community Room is at the very center of the Library’s cultural mission, so it is the location of concerts,
lectures, film screenings, community forums, and much more. The Community Room is a leading Valley venue for
audiences of 350, with video streaming to the Library’s Annenberg Reading Room giving a total audience capacity
of 600. The naming opportunity for the Community Room is at a gift level of $500,000, and is a gift for audiences

me of these changes give us new naming opportunities. Naming a Library space has a permanence that speaks to
a named space or feature may become a destination, the site of a program, a comfortable seating or contemplative
nd important gift that becomes YOUR LITERARY LEGACY.

THE SPECIAL COLLECTIONS ROOM

The Library Special Collections Room is significant in many ways, all of them tied to our mission of “lifelong
learning.” The Special Collections Room is home to the President Gerald R. Ford and Mrs. Betty Ford Collection, a
gift from the Ford family to the Rancho Mirage Public Library. A portion of the Fords’ personal Library is on display
with some titles available for loan from the special shelving that displays it. The comfortable new space is home
to the Joe and Gigi Roberson Mineral Collection, an exhibit of forty significant mineral samples from around the
world. This collection of rare specimens was sought after by mineralogical museums. The Robersons chose to make
their gift to our Library because Rancho Mirage is their home and their Library has 300 days annually for this display
to be enjoyed by all ages. The naming opportunity for the Special Collections Room is at a gift level of $100,000. This
gift honors the Fords, the Robersons and their love of Rancho Mirage. Naming the Special Collections Room, our
newest and most comfortable space, can become YOUR LITERARY LEGACY.

THE WRITERS FESTIVAL CONCOURSE

This location is a brand new naming opportunity. It connects the Library lobby to the Library Café and the Library
Foundation’s book store, the “Book Nook.” It is a major pathway through our vibrant Library, where there are so
many choices for visitors: relaxing, reading, grabbing lunch, or browsing a fully-stocked book store. The Concourse
is lined with framed prints from earlier Writers Festivals, our annual January event where as many as one thousand
readers meet as many as fifty authors. The Writers Festival Concourse is at a gift level of $75,000. The Writers
Festival Concourse is undergoing lighting and other changes and is a beautiful, useful, and busy space that can
become YOUR LITERARY LEGACY.

THE ANGELS WALL OF FAME

The Rancho Mirage Writers Festival, an annual January program, is the biggest celebration of books and authors in
any public library in America. Nearly two hundred “Angels” contribute to the Festival each year. An etched copper
name plate on the Concourse Wall with a gift of $5,000 can be YOUR LITERARY LEGACY.

THE LIBRARY CAFÉ

The Library Café is unusual, not found in most public libraries. The cafe offers a meeting place for lunch or a
quiet conversation with friends, and a menu that is just right for so many Library patrons. The Library Café
includes a bakery with fresh breads to take home or muffins for a late morning snack. The naming
opportunity for the Library Café is at a gift level of $25,000. This feature is part of what makes the
Library so comfortable for so many visitors. A gift for our patrons can become
YOUR LITERARY LEGACY.

THE CHECK-OUT DESK

At the very heart of the Library is the check-out desk, where patrons of all ages use their library cards to borrow
books, audio books, DVDs, music CDs, large print books, magazines, and more. This is the location where our very
friendly staff makes signing up for a library card or taking home a stack of picture books for children a pleasant
experience. For first-time visitors or long-term patrons, new residents or seasonal “snowbirds,” the check-out
desk offers our best example of customer service. Our staff gives a relaxed and friendly “welcome to the Library”
that makes the Rancho Mirage Public Library the very best in the Coachella Valley and places it in the top tier of
California’s libraries.
This naming opportunity is a gift for all patrons who register for Library cards, who borrow some of our 100,000
books, or who simply stop by to say, “Hi.” Naming the check-out desk at a gift level of $25,000 can become YOUR
LITERARY LEGACY.

THE INFORMATION DESK

The Rancho Mirage Public Library is widely known for the research skills of its professional librarians. This is a staff of
smart, dedicated people with much experience in finding the answers to all sorts of questions from our patrons. Each
year, the Library staff fields 75,000 questions. Our librarians are equipped with searching skills and databases to dig for
data and dig for facts. From daily questions of “Do you have this book?” to more complex queries in science, history, the
arts, business or topics that challenge our skills with new areas of research, our librarians are eager to serve. All of this
intellectual inquiry and homework support for students of all ages occurs at the Library’s information desk. This service
center is at the very heart of our Library, fondly known as a “House of Ideas.” Naming the information desk at a gift level
of $25,000 can become YOUR LITERARY LEGACY.

THE READING ALCOVES

There is a great American image, which has been used by Hollywood, of readers “curled
up with a good book.” Though we do not have a cat, a fireplace or other details of this
picture, we do have comfortable chairs and good light, framed by an abundance of
new and classic books to make our reading alcoves classic reading areas. These are
two very special retreats in a world that too often seems frenetic and noisy. The
comfort these areas and their furnishings provide make them welcoming spaces in
our busy Library. Naming each reading alcove at a gift level of $10,000 can become
YOUR LITERARY LEGACY.

THE MOVIE WALL

The Rancho Mirage Public Library is known for the quality of its collections in many
formats, matching varied interests and personal schedules. The Library’s movie
collection is large and offers many feature films as well as documentaries. The movie
wall, containing over 14,000 DVDs, is the most heavily browsed location in the Library.
Funding this wall gives a donor an opportunity to support a very popular location in
our busy Library. Naming the movie wall is at a gift level of $10,000 and can become

YOUR LITERARY LEGACY.

THE ART EXHIBIT WALL 11

There is art throughout the Library. The art exhibit wall is now the focus for our ever-
changing exhibitions of paintings, photography, and other media. Most Library
visitors stop to enjoy current exhibitions and the visual energy they bring to the
busy Library. One objective for all exhibitions is to bring new work by local artists
to this high-visibility exhibit space. Naming the art exhibit wall at a gift level of
$10,000 can become YOUR LITERARY LEGACY.
