Reading is for everyone

We at Chippewa River District Library encourage literacy for
everyone, early readers to adults, and believe every individual
has the right to be a good reader. But for some, reading can be a
challenge. It can be frustrating and upsetting when the words just
don’t come together. Additional Reading Help

The English language can be tough to decode for those with U.S. Department of Education
a learning disability or dyslexia and those learning the English
language for the first time. From the Lexia Reading Core5 program Central Michigan University Reading Clinic
to links for professional reading help in Michigan, CRDL has the The Legacy Center for Community Success
resources for those needing to improve their reading skills.
Dyslexia Help at the University of Michigan
Lexia Learning offers personalized reading programs where
students learn fundamental reading skills. It’s approved by the
U.S. Department of Education and is offered free through the
library. This program is good for parents to use at home with their
child or for teacher’s use in the classroom to measure reading
success. Just contact Monica, 989-773-3242, ext. 219, to get
your free account and sign in information.

There are also other beneficial links on the CRDL website for
reading help. You can find additional information through the
U.S. Department of Education, Central Michigan University
Reading Clinic, The Legacy Center for Community Success, and
DyslexiaHelp at the University of
Michigan. All of these links can
be found under Reading Help on
the CRDL website.

Reading. It’s how we share
information and ideas and
communicate with those around
us. Reading is for everyone.

So please, if you suspect a
problem, don't hesitate. Learn
about reading difficulties, get your
child assessed, find out what you
can do to help your struggling
reader and don't give up!

The kids will be heading back to school soon, which means homework assignments will soon follow.
To help make the transition back to school easier, and tackle those homework issues, Chippewa River
District Library has plenty of resources to help your student get through those tough assignments.

Locating the tools you need is easier than ever. There are links such as Lexia Learning and Central
Michigan University Reading Clinic, that links provide a good resource for those who are learning to
or struggling to read. There are also links such as Khan Academy and Mathvids, good sources for
researching topics and seeing how to properly solve math problems. Additionally, there are booklists to
help your student find age appropriate, or reading level appropriate, books.

Whether the subject is math, science, language arts or social studies, CRDL points you in the right
direction to help students succeed. For teens there are links such as Hippocampus, World Book
Online, and Discovery Education. Elementary and middle school students can find links to Homework
Helpers and Khan Academy. Additionally, the website also offers resources for parents to help with
daily challenges. It’s important to recognize a student’s strengths and weaknesses to help them better
understand their learning abilities.

From family development and health, to raising an avid reader, these tools give parents good insight
into helping their child grow academically and personally as they start another school year. Give your
student the right tools by using all the services CRDL has to offer. It’s never too early, or too late, to give
them the help they need.
