Project Indigo

One boy’s adventure through time and space!

Hi, I’m Tom, a local Doctor Who blogger & I write about my adventures online at...
anadventurethroughtimeandspace.com

Project Indigo is my blog where I travel the world
visiting people and places associated with Doctor Who.
Recently I went to Peacehaven in East Sussex to meet
up with my cousins and it turns out that the Doctor
has also been in the Lewes district - the Doctor and his
companion Peri arrived there during ‘The Trial of a Time
Lord’ a 14 episode series which was filmed in 1986.
Telscombe Cliffs, between Peacehaven and Saltdean,
were used as a filming location for Mindwarp, which
was a storyline for episodes 5-8.

In The Trial of a Time Lord we see the Sixth Doctor
being prosecuted by the mysterious Valeyard, for
breaking the First Law of Time -interfering in the affairs
of other species and planets! Telscombe Cliffs were used to create the planet Thoros-Beta
which was famed for its pink oceans and bluey-green sky, in fact the Fifth Doctor refused
to visit the planet because he didn’t like the colour scheme! It was a rocky planet inhabited
by the amphibious Mentors and we are shown the Doctor’s visit to the planet as evidence of
his meddling.

As I arrived at Peacehaven ready to descend to the bottom of the cliffs I saw a monument
to time - the Prime Meridian Obelisk. This was built in 1936 to mark the fact that
Peacehaven lies on the prime meridian of Greenwich, a line that divides East from West at
Longitude 0° and forms the basis for our Time Zones. Hmm, Timey-Wimey stuff!
I went down a zig-zag to walk alongside the cliffs and was not surprised to see the sea
wasn’t pink after all, I’m sure my cousins would have mentioned it! The cliffs and foreshore
date from the Campanian stage of the Late Cretaceous epoch, between 83.5 – 78 million
years ago. At this time much of Europe lay beneath the sea, as global sea-levels during
the Late Cretaceous were over 200 metres higher. The pure white chalk cliffs are made

up of the skeletal remains of planktonic algae called
coccolithophore and it is great spot for fossil hunting.

My visit was chalk-full of drama - I went on the final
day of a summer heatwave and the weather broke
when I was at the furthest point from the zig-zags with
nowhere to shelter. Across the sea I saw lightning light
the sky like fireworks and thunder crashed around me
like boomwhackers. As the torrential rain came down it
bombarded me with chalk from the cliffs -
I looked like a Snowman!

If you would like to read about my other Doctor Who adventures please check out my blog.
Thanks for reading, goodbye!

Tom Project Indigo -- anadventurethroughtimeandspace.com

One summer evening during a violent thunderstorm a mother was tucking her son
into bed. She was about to turn off the light when he asked with a tremor in his voice,
“Mummy, will you stay with me tonight?” The mother smiled and gave him a reassuring

hug. “I can’t dear,” she said. “I have to sleep in Daddy’s room.”
A long silence was broken at last by his shaky little voice, “The big sissy.”

“Caring for your feet in the winter”

As we enter the colder, winter months,
it’s extremely important to keep ourselves
warm. To do this, we normally wear extra
clothes and gloves on our hands. But, it’s also
essential we keep our feet warm. One of the
most common problems which can occur
during colder weather are chilblains. These
are small, itchy swellings on the skin which
occur as a reaction to cold temperatures. In
this article, we will provide some information
on chilblains and how to prevent them.

Chilblains usually occur several hours after exposure
to the cold as a result of blood vessels narrowing and
widening too quickly. When this happens, blood can
leak into the surrounding tissue and this is believed to be
reason for the swelling and itchiness. In extreme cases,
the skin may break and blisters may develop. It is very
important to try not to scratch the area as the skin can
easily break, leading to a possible infection.

Fortunately, chilblains are quite easy to prevent as long
as you follow these tips. The obvious thing to do to
prevent chilblains is by limiting your exposure to the
cold. You can wear thick socks or long johns to improve
the circulation to the feet and try and avoid wearing
tight shoes as they can restrict the circulation. Warming
your shoes on the radiator before wearing them allows
them to dry and eating at least one hot meal a day has a
fantastic warming effect across the whole body. Finally,
moisturising your feet every day stops your feet from
becoming dry and prevents the skin from cracking.

If you have any concerns about your feet or would like to
know more about preventing chilblains, then please do
not hesitate to give us a ring and make an appointment.

Hi Im Tara and I am a 6 yr old Border Terrier cross. I am a lovely natured
girl but due to a lack of knowledge of the outside world I am a bit of a
scaredy cat. I am gaining in confidence but I will need a very patient
mum and / or dad to help me overcome this. I would not like to live with
children because of my nerves. Once I trust you I am very loving and
affectionate girl who loves nothing more than a lap or sofa for cuddles.
As far as the big outside world that would have to be a gradual process
to introduce me to a normal life. Believe me I am worth it.

For more information on Tara or any of the other animals in our care please contact us on
01202 87500, e-mail: [email protected] or visit our website www.waggytails.org.uk

As ever we are in need of long term Foster Parents, as we prefer our dogs to live in a home
environment so if you feel this could be you please call us on the number oe email above.
May we also take this opportunity to wish all our supporters a Happy and Prosperous New Year

Waggy Tails Rescue is a registered charity in Dorset;

A father passing by his son’s bedroom, was astonished to see the bed was nicely
made, and that everything was picked up and tidy. Then, he saw an envelope, propped
up prominently on the pillow. It was addressed, ‘To Dad.’ With the worst premonition, he
opened the envelope and with trembling hands read the letter.
Dear Dad, It is with great regret and sorrow that I’m writing to you. I had to elope with
my new girlfriend, because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mum and you. I’ve been finding
real passion with Kazza, and she is so nice, but I knew you would not approve of her,
because of all her piercings’, tattoos, her tight Motorcycle clothes, and because she is so
much older than I am. But it’s not only the passion, Dad. She’s pregnant. Kazza said that
we will be very happy. She runs a tattoist parlour in a caravan near the docks, and has a
good regular trade of sailors. We share a dream of having many more children. Kazza has
opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn’t really hurt anyone. We’ll be growing
it for ourselves, and trading it with the other people passing through the docks for all the
cocaine and ecstasy we want. In the meantime, we’ll pray that science will find a better
substitute for needles as they do make our arms sore. Don’t worry Dad, I’m 15, and I know
how to take care of myself. Someday, I’m sure we’ll be back to visit, so you can get to know
your many grandchildren.

Love, your son, Mark.
P.S. Dad, none of the above is true. I’m over at Gary’s house. I just wanted to remind you that there

are worse things in life than the School report that’s on the kitchen table. xxx

Travel Feature -
Your 2019 Holiday Bucket List... By Mags Addison

So where would you like to travel to this coming year?
Do you have a travel bucket list?
My own list is always too long – partly due to working in travel, and not
helped by putting together such exotic trips for my own client’s. I always
end up wanting to experience it myself! One day perhaps!

You may wish to visit family or friends somewhere in the UK you haven’t
been, or in Europe, or even further flung. During this time of year,
Australia, New Zealand and South Africa are always popular for people
wanting to escape our dreary winter weather and visit loved ones in sunnier climes. Families re-uniting
around the New Year is always something traditionally we’ve done, and less face it – a lot of us Brits have
families or friends in one of these countries. But book early for this, as flights do get sold out and the
nearer to the season, the dearer those flights become.
Maybe you have a wish list of cities you want to visit in Europe, or cities more far flung. After
all, we are all taking more frequent, shorter breaks, now as the trends move away from having the annual
two weeks off – which used to be our one big trip of the year. You can pack a lot into a weekend, or
few days – and the flexibility of flights these days means even places like New York, Dubai, or Cape Town
become variable for shorter durations. Understanding the routing and timings of your flights can squeeze
the most out of a few days with these shorter trips.
Some people `collect’ islands instead – by visiting as many as they can – and there are plenty
of them around the world to tick off your To Do List. From the numerous islands in the Mediterranean, to
exotic islands much further away, in Hawaii, Fiji, Australia, and so on. Every island is different – and even
the United Kingdom – itself an island - has a few of its own dotted around its shores.
Perhaps on your bucket list you have the wish to learn a language in foreign country, or visit
a country to further a hobby, or maybe it’s the interest itself which will determine your destination. Art
classes and Painting in France, Cookery classes in Tuscany, Yoga and Wellness classes in Thailand, for
example. There are many sporting and musical events around the world which mean your wish list could
include the country they are in, such as Grand Prix, the World Cup, or the Olympics. Maybe there are
certain festivals you’ve always wanted to go to, or even a natural phenomenal that happens somewhere
in the globe, such as the Aurea Borealis - The Northern Lights. You may wish instead, to tick off as many
natural wonders in the world as you can: The Grand Canyon. Victoria falls. Mount Everest. The Great
Barrier Reef.
Do you want to mark an occasion by visiting a certain hotel, or resort you’ve been reading
about? Or Is there a country that you’ve long had a desire to explore, and feel now is the time to see it.
Whatever is on your Bucket List, I hope 2019 is the one where you will see something special.

Happy New Year.

Beach holidays, City breaks, Honeymoons, Weddings abroad, Adventure holidays, Ski,
Cruise, Tailormade trips, Flight only, Car hire, Airport hotels and parking and much more...

Did you know....

Every human spent about half an hour as a single cell. Pregnancy in humans lasts on
average about 270 days (from conception to birth). A fetus acquires fingerprints at
the age of three months. Babies are born with 300 bones, but by adulthood we have
only 206 in our bodies. One in every 2000 babies is born with a tooth.
The largest cell in the human body is the female ovum, or egg cell. It is about 1/180
inch in diameter. The smallest cell in the human body is the male sperm. It takes
about 175,000 sperm cells to weigh as much as a single egg cell. Talking of mums, in

the late 19th century, millions of human mummies were used as fuel for locomotives
in Egypt where wood and coal was scarce, but mummies were plentiful.

Brain Power

1: Emptying out her savings jar Abigail found she had a total of £15.84 but what
struck her as odd was that after sorting it out into neat little piles she realised she
had only four different coins, the largest being £1, and had exactly 12 of each coin.

What were the four differnet coins?

2: Brian is half his mother Jenny’s age. In 10 years, Brian will be three-fifths
Jenny’s age. Ten years ago, Brian was one-third Jenny’s age.
How old are Brian and Jenny now?

3: Picture an arrow fired at a target. For the arrow to
reach the target, the arrow must first travel half of the
overall distance from the bow to the target. Next, the
arrow must travel half of the remaining distance.
eg: If the starting distance was 40m, the arrow first
travels 20m, then 10m and so on. Extending this theory,
with the resulting distances getting smaller and smaller,
will the arrow ever reach the target?

AMSOTSOROACRDIDAEOTRIWSONN MTA Business Focus
Robyn Eede Ltd - Wellness Health Coach...

Hi, I’m Robyn, a Moordown-based qualified Clinical Nutritionist
(BSc Hons) and certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach
from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN). I help people
incorporate healthy habits into their daily routine so they can live
happier, healthier and more fulfilled lives.
I first became interested in health when my mum was in
desperate need of help. She was suffering with crippling arthritis
giving her severe joint pain, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and
fatigue. I was 14 at the time and could not bear to watch her suffer
like that. My research into gluten eventually proved to be the
turning point; within one-week mum’s stomach pain had completely
gone; within 6 weeks her joint pain was gone. My passion was
ignited and there was no turning back. There is so much conflicting information out there
making us very confused and that is due to “bio-individuality” – meaning that one person’s
food can be another person’s poison.

I now offer Personalised Meal Plans and Nutritional Health Coaching; I publish recipe books
and have a YouTube channel where I share my recipes and health knowledge with the world.
I have helped thousands of people improve their health and weight by improving their eating
habits … and I want to help you, too! To inspire you to eat amazingly nourishing foods and live
a life that is abundant and fulfilled, disease free and joyful.

Want to lose or gain weight? Get off your medication? Feel more energised? Build muscle?
Visit my website where I share my creative healthy recipes, meal plans and recipe videos to
help you live life to the full:
Visit robyneede.com to download my FREE 2-day Plant-based Meal Plan; get healthier, feel
more energised and improve your digestion!
As your Nutritionist and Health Coach I will take you through your goals and we’ll formulate a
meal plan specific to your physical requirements.

You will find all my Health Coaching Programs at robyneede.com/my-programs
Please feel free to message me for all the details you need, all the questions you have.

I look forward to hearing from you!

TOMORROW’S TECHNOLOGY TODAY

Thought to be Bournemouth’s oldest Taxi Company,
Mobile Radio Cars are pleased to announce the
introduction of its first all electric Vehicle. Founded
in Winton in 1976 Mobile Radio Cars prides itself on
providing a reliable and friendly service. All our drivers
have good local knowledge are friendly and helpful and
have good communication skills. We have a following
of many loyal and satisfied customers some of which use
us on a daily basis. We offer a standard 10% discount on
the council dictated fares with the exception of public
holidays.

Rick Lawrence started working for Mobile 18 months
ago and is now a shareholder and sits on the company
committee forming part of the Advertising Executive.
After working as an Avionics Engineer for over 30
years I have now found my perfect job. I am privileged to an insight into peoples lives and for me the most
interesting part is dealing with our customers and getting to know all aspects of their lives.

We have just invested in a new operating system which we hope will enhance our customers experience.
The new automated system allows our customers to book their taxis at the touch of a button and keeps them
updated on their taxis progress. You can also now book your taxi via our new APP. where you can track the
progress of your car on your mobile phone. You also have the option as before to talk to one of our friendly
operators as we appreciate not everyone wants to communicate with a machine.

Rick told us he has just taken delivery of a brand new all
electric Hyundai Ionic. The future of cars is undoubtedly
electric and I felt now is the right time to invest in this new
technology. The practical range of the car is around 120-130
miles on a single charge. I can top up this charge between jobs
if necessary. If anyone is thinking of buying an electric car I
would probably recommend waiting for a year or so for the
next generation of electric cars. They will certainly have an
improved range as battery technology improves. Hyundai are
said to be bringing out a New Ionic next year which will have
a range in excess of 200 miles on a single charge.
Also worth looking at for those on a budget is the Nissan Leaf
which is having a new model in 2019 with an improved range.

I am very impressed with the Hyundai Ionic as a Taxi. It offers a smooth and comfortable ride with economic
running costs and plenty of power and is popular with our customers. With zero emissions this has to be the
way ahead.
The current government insensitive to buy electric is a grant of £3500 which has recently been cut from
£4500. No doubt this grant will disappear completely in future years as more of us go over to electric vehicles.

A little girl was out shopping with her mum and the shop assistant asked her her
name. The little girl replied proudly, “I’m Mr. Carmichael’s daughter.” Her mother told

her this was wrong, and that the she must say, “I’m Catherine Carmichael”
The following weekend at Sunday school the vicar said to the girl, “Aren’t you
Mr. Carmichael’s daughter?” She replied, “I thought I was, but mother says I’m not.”

There is no beating the taste of truly fresh
fruit and veg especially, when it’s yours!

January / February - Gardeners Tips

It’s likely to be cold and very wet but there are some positive things we can do weather permitting.
• Support any larger shrubs and tall roses as they are particularly vulnerable to wind rock. The roots
can tear and reduce the plants’ potential for next year.
• Prune any overgrowing and congested branches of freestanding Apple and Pear trees to allow fruiting
buds to develop next year.
• Ensure your greenhouse heater is working if you have one. We have included a separate electronic
thermostat which only switches the electric heater on at our pre-set temperatures.
• Harvest Parsnips, Leeks, Winter Cabbage any remaining root crops and especially those long
anticipated sprouts.
• If you not done it already, dig over borders and next years’ planting areas incorporating as much
organic material as possible all of which should rot down over the coming months. The birds will love
you for it as they pick up the grubs you have unearthed.
• Do ensure any outdoor pots are raised off the ground to avoid freezing and waterlogging.
• If you have a pond or water drinker for the birds do ensure it remains frost free. If you have fish,
never hit the ice with a hammer the shock can kill the fish. Much better to place a floating object on the
surface. This can be removed from time to time to reveal an air hole.
• During the winter the wild life can find food gathering difficult so do provide
a variety of feed locations and variety for the different species. Remember the
ground feeders as well as the perching birds. There is a definite pecking order
so space out the feeders to give them all an even chance.

The garden and lawn at home can safely be left alone in January and on into February except for tidying
up leaf debris. Keep the wildlife fed and watered. They will repay shortly by eating up the newly hatched
spiders and other gardener unfriendly grubs.
Here are some jobs that might bring a bit of colour to your cheeks and help work off some surplus festive

food.
• Pruning Gooseberries, Currents and cut Autumn Raspberries to 1”-2” from
the ground in February.
• Apply some Sulphate of Potash around the base of fruit plants.
• Winter wash your fruit trees.
• If you didn’t sow Broad Beans in early winter then for a quick start you can
plant them now in pots, or directly in the ground in February.
• Clear any plant debris from the ground and allow any frost to break up the soil and kill off the pests.
• Plan your vegetable 3 year crop rotation so as not to grow the same crop in the same place as last year.
This prevents the build-up of pests and diseases which are partial to the previous planting.
Basically do not plant Onions in the same ground each year.
• Remember not to use manure where you intend to plant Brassicas, Onions, Garlic or Carrots.

If you are becoming a keener gardener, then you might want to put your name down for an Allotment.
All members must be Bournemouth Borough Council Tax payers.

The office at North Bournemouth Allotment Society is open every Saturday & Sunday
from 10:00 until 12:00 noon. Call in and see us, have a chat about your hopes and plans.

We have a range of plot sizes to suit all ambitions.
If you would like to have a look around someone will help you.

Pupils put new SafeWise tours to the test

mouth Local charity SafeWise has joined forces with St Mary’s Primary School
in Wareham and Damory coaches to help develop new Junior Citizen tours
which are set to be rolled out to thousands of pupils from September.

St Mary’s is the last of five Dorset schools to trial and feedback on the new tours, which focus on

equipping children aged five to 11 with skills for life, at SafeWise centres in Bournemouth and Weymouth.

Year two pupils spent four hours at SafeWise Bournemouth’s indoor safety village testing out a range of

interactive scenarios based around fire, road and water safety plus healthy choices, online safety, journey

planning, first aid and more.

SafeWise Bournemouth Manager Elise St.Hill said: “I’d like to thank all the schools which have visited

to test out our new Junior Citizen programme, they have provided invaluable feedback which we will use

to fine tune the tours. “The Junior Citizen schools programme aims to provide realistic and immersive

learning experiences to equip children with the skills, knowledge and confidence to live active, fulfilling

and safer lives in the real world.

“It is essential that we deliver engaging, value for money tours

Damory General Manager Adam Keen said: “Damory is extremely

This FREE sche“mTehise owpoenrktothaalltytohuensgtaff deliver at these centres is invaluable and the

ifeDrive datesCarlea:ss Teacher Mr Leyman-Hobbs said: “The children have enjoyed a superb day at SafeWise.

“The new tour represents a really good step forward, such as the clever voting system, real car which the

children can get into as well as other situations where they recognise danger and deal with it. “It’s a nice,

secure environment for the children to learn in and all the helpers are really down to earth, so the pupils

feel confident asking questions and are not afraid to have a go and try different things around the centre.”
