Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI is the only charity in NI
dedicated to fighting blood cancers.

Leukaemia and Lymphoma NI is the only charity in Northern Ireland dedicated
to funding research into the causes and cures of blood cancers. Established as
the Northern Ireland Leukaemia Research Fund by the McDowell family in
1964 following the death of their daughter, the charity has invested over £12.5
million pounds to life saving research.

We are based at the Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology (CCRCB) at
Queens University, Belfast. The Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI scientists are
experts in their field and with their research they aim to understand how the
disease develops, better methods of treatment and ultimately improve the
outcome and quality of life for all patients affected by leukaemia, lymphoma,
myeloma and other related conditions.

‘We are a small, efficient charity and we pride
ourselves on the global impact of the work we fund.’

Three people in Northern Ireland are diagnosed with blood cancer
every day making it the UK’s 5th most common cancer by
diagnosis and the third biggest killer.

This frightening statistic is a stark reminder that although research
has come a long way the outcome for many blood cancer patients
remains poor, particularly in comparison to survival rates for other
more well-known cancers.

Statistics for the US indicate that one person is diagnosed with
blood cancer every three minutes.

Each year Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI aims to raise £500,000 to
continue supporting world class research.

Our income is derived from donations, bequests and investment
revenue, all of which can be quite unpredictable.

The chart below illustrates the increase in donations since 2010, we
attribute the phenomenal growth to a rebrand and marketing
campaigns to raise awareness of the illness and the work funded by
the charity.

We have developed a comprehensive strategy to sustain this growth
and implement big changes over the next 5 years and beyond.
