"But my house is just there in that
tree" says Peeka the Pygmy Possum.

"Hopefully you can find another tree
way over there" says Mrs H.

"But they are all taken by big
possums" says Peeka.

"Why can't they build the new
school where the old one is?"
asks Betty Betong.

"Some people think it would look
ugly next to the road" says Mrs H.

"And it's much easier to build here."

"Hey possum what are you doing
here? It's daytime!" asks Indie.

"I can't sleep. I'm worried about my
home being destroyed by the new
school" replies Peeka.

"What?!" says Indie. "Mr
McMoostash told us it will be an
environmentally friendly school!"

At home, Indie says "Have you
heard about the new school?"

"They will destroy the bushland
where endangered animals live."

"It's sad, but that's progress" say
Indie's Mum and Dad.

"Mrs H, why am I threatened?“ asks
Ticka the Red Crowned Toadlet.

“You toadlets are very fussy about
where you live” replies Mrs H.

"I like eating spiders that fall in the
puddles” says Ticka.

"Ewww that’s disgusting!” cries Betty.

"Is there something we can do to
change the plan, so we'll survive?"
says Benny the Bentwing Bat.

"We could ask the Premier to meet
us and hear our views" replies
Mrs H.

"Hi there cute little critters, I'm Cas
Inomike. What can I do for you?"

"Premier, we understand the kids
need a new school..." says Peeka.

"...but could you please build it
where the school is now?"

"It would be expensive and take
extra time if we change the plan."
says Premier Inomike.

"The parents want it done quickly.
Sorry guys - you'll have to find
somewhere else to live."

"That didn't go well" says Ticka.
"What can we do now?"

"We can gather outside the school
in the morning and ask the parents
to help us" says Mrs H.

"Yes!" say the animals.

"Mum, why are the animals
protesting?" asks the boy.

"Ignore them. They just want to
stop you from getting a good
school" says his Mum.

"Go and protest somewhere else!"
says a random guy.

"Did you hear about the protest?"
Indie asks her Mum and Dad.
"I'm going to write to the Premier."
"That's nice Indie, but I think it's too
late" says her Dad.

"Look at this letter I got today"
Premier Inomike says to his wife.

"You'd be very popular if you could
build a new school and save the
bushland" she replies.

"Hmmm... popularity" thinks Cas.

One week later, there is another
protest. Indie and her Dad join the
animals.

"Dad, Premier Inomike didn't reply to
my letter. The bushland will be
removed tomorrow" says Indie.

"At least you tried Indie. I'm proud of
you" says her Dad.

Indie arrives at school the next
day, thinking about the bad dream
she had.

"Indie! Did you see in the paper?
Premier Inomike is changing the
school plan!" says Sarah.

"The bushland and animals will be
saved!" she exclaims.
