A Message From The Chairman



The dark nights are with us……. which means only one thing the 2018 Midsomer
Norton Carnival. It is � me to dust off your warm coats and come to town to see
the world’s greatest show on earth.

This year’s carnival is as good as they come, a� er many months of intense
prepara� on and long hard planning by the carnival clubs, groups and individuals
involved in tonight’s carnival.

Its Midsomer Norton’s biggest and best night of the year, I hope everyone can
put all their problems behind them for one night and line the streets to show
support for their eff orts by applauding the carnival as it through the town.
I would like to say a massive thank you to the Midsomer Norton & District Carni-
val Charity Associa� on for all the hard work the small team has put into running
the show, I would also like to say a big thank you to Midsomer Norton Town
Council for all their support. I would like to say a big please to all the public who
turn out tonight to dig deep in your pockets and give us as much as you can,
where else would you be able to go and see a spectacular show like this. Please
help us have a bumper collec� on this year so we can help good causes and help
run the carnival for many years to come.


On the last note, I would like to say have a great carnival and safe journey home
and see you all in 2019

A Message From The Town Mayor







Carnival is without doubt the largest community event in the Somer Valley
and provides a fabulous opportunity for the whole community to come
together for an evening of gli� ering spectacle. The event is also key
fundraising opportunity for local chari� es, community groups and good causes
raising thousands of pounds to support their work.


On behalf of the town I would like to thank the dedicated team of volunteers
who work throughout the year to make Carnival possible. Whether it is
preparing health and safety plans months ahead or closing roads and
managing the event on the night, the Carnival team are simply amazing.
As well as a wonderful night out, the money raised help has an impact right
through the year – helping some of the most vulnerable local residents.


I look forward to seeing many of you at Carnival this year and encourage eve-
ryone to please give generously and have a wonderful evening.

Important Information



Midsomer Norton Carnival is the largest community event in the Somer
Valley providing an opportunity for the whole community to come together for
an evening of gli� ering spectacle. Carnival is also one of the largest charity
fundraisers in the area.

The Carnival procession starts in Charlton Road at 7.30pm and proceeds down
Silver Street and Midsomer Norton High Street, fi nishing at Midsomer Norton
Enterprise Park on Radstock Road at 10pm.
To ensure the safety of entrants and spectators road closures, parking suspen-
sions and footpath closures will be opera� ng on a number of streets within the
area.


































Closures for the procession route will begin from 5:30pm un� l midnight, how-
ever we an� sipate closures being li� ed once its safe to do so.

Important Information



To ensure the safety of entrants and spectators road closures, parking
suspensions and footpath closures will be opera� ng on a number of streets
within the area.

Assembly Area
One sec� on of the A367 Wells Road Fosseway (beyond the White Post rounda-
bout) will be closed from 7pm on Sat 10th November to allow larger carts to as-
semble before the Carnival. There will be a local diversion around this closure.

Procession Route
Closures on the procession route will be implemented in stages star� ng from
High Street in Midsomer Norton which will be closed from 5.30pm un� l 1am,
Charlton Lane at 6:30pm round to the A362 Radstock Road at 8pm. Proces-
sion route roads will be re-opened as soon as possible a� er the procession has
cleared each sec� on of road, star� ng with Charlton Lane at 8:00pm and the
west sec� on of the A362 Radstock Road being re-opened at 11.30pm.


Dispersal Area
The east sec� on of the A362 Radstock Road (between the Midsomer Norton
Enterprise Park and Radstock) will remain closed un� l 2.30am Tues 14th
November to allow the larger vehicles to dis-assemble.


Parking Suspensions
Vehicles remaining parked on designated roads will be subject to a fi xed penalty
no� ce and towed away. Contact 01225 448025 to arrange recovery of removed
vehicles. Contact B&NES Parking Services for any queries or appeals on 01225
477133.

Please note that road closures and parking suspensions apply to all vehicles,
including disabled (‘Blue Badge’) parking.


The � mes stated are the legal road closure � mes permi� ed by Bath & North East Somerset
Council and Mendip District Council. However, we will endeavour to close the roads for as short
a period of � me as possible to minimise disrup� on, so in many cases the roads may be re-
opened before the � mes stated.

the procession, you’ll get to see every entry
on our new app and the opportunity to
cast your vote on which one you think
was the very best.


You can vote for anyone, it’s your personal
op� on and it can be for any reason, it could be
because you liked the music, the rou� ne or
simply because it was the one that made you
laugh.

Who will win....you decide by cas� ng your vote, we’ll collate the all votes and
the entry that gains the most votes will win our NEW Spectators Choice award,
to be announced at our presenta� on in December.

Well its really simple, we’ve teamed up with i2i Infi nity to create the new

In recent years there has been an explosion in the numbers of pedlars descending on
Somerset towns during carnival season, some even spor� ng fake Offi cial Seller uniforms, these
traders have brought very li� le benefi t for organising commi� ees or clubs who voluntarily put in
hours of work to put the show on the road.
These pedlars seldom contribute anything towards the running costs of the fes� vi� es and
Carnival organisers have serious concerns that the public mistakenly assume that they are
suppor� ng Carnival through their purchases from these traders, which is not the case.


This year as part of a Carnival Consor� um of 14 towns we will be selling our own light-up toys,
all CE marked. Products off ered for sale by the Offi cial Carnival Sellers will include fl ashing
wands, batons and windmills, whistles and many other items which children love at carnivals,
prices will range from £2 and £4.
Please only buy goods only from these recognised and authorised sellers, with all profi ts being
ploughed back into Carnival.

Royal Family



We’re really pleased to be able to
have a new Royal Family for our
2018 illuminated carnival parade,
a� er a rest last year, our Carnival
Royalty compe� � on returned this
year with the compe� � on taking
place on the 14th of September.
The event was well a� ended with a
number of children taking part, all
trying to not only win a cash prize
but to also win a pres� gious spot
in our royal carriage, which will
head our main Illuminated Parade
through the streets of Midsomer
Norton on Monday the 12th of
November.




This year’s carnival royalty were picked by our judging panel, a� er much debate
and discussion in what was a very � ghtly contested compe� � on. The lucky
winners for the posi� ons for Carnival Princess, Carnival Prince, Carnival King
and Carnival Queen are:

• Carnival Prince - Jack Wya�
• Carnival Princess - Chloe Wall
• Carnival King - Toby Wya�
• Carnival Queen - Bethany Wall



Unbeknown to the judging panel, the winners of the Prince and King posi� ons
went to two brothers and in a further twist to proceedings, the female posi� ons
of Princess and Queen were presented to sisters, all in all resul� ng in a truly
Royal Family.
