GROWING DISCIPLES

BUILDING COMMUNITY

TRANSFORMING LIVES

DISCIPLESHIP TEAM

Being part of the discipleship team means that you may be
teaching and nurturing adults through: Just Explore;
Growing Leaders; the 3D course; the Women’s Theology
Groups; starting a new House Group; helping to run the
Bookstall and many other opportunities! We also have a
dedicated team preparing people for Baptism and
Marriage.

How often will I serve as part of this team?

That entirely depends on which course or group you serve
with. Most groups meet monthly but for more information
do contact us.

Do I need experience to serve?

Not in all cases. A passion for God and for learning together
would certainly help but training is available.

What will I get out of serving with this team?

Being part of the Discipleship Team offers a unique
opportunity to teach and learn at the same time, while
walking alongside others in their faith.

KIDS AND YOUTH TEAM

Each Sunday, and throughout the week, we nurture children
and young people in their faith in a variety of ways.

We have numerous groups and activities on a Sunday at the
Junction, St Alphege Kids in the church building, and Jigsaw,
which meets once a month on a Sunday afternoon.

During the week we have the Junior Growth Group, the First
Communion Group, the Youth Group, Minims, Praise and Play,
Messy Church, Open the Book, and much more.

The Easter Journey and Journey to the Stable are also some
of the main highlights of the year. As you can imagine, it
takes many volunteers to help make these things happen!

How often will I serve as part of this team?

As you can see, there are so many different opportunities
to serve, so how often you might help varies. As an
example, the St Alphege Kids team normally lead or help
once a month. Do enquire for more details.

Do I need experience to serve?

No, all you will need is a passion for children’s learning, a
willingness to get stuck in and an openness to developing
new skills, as well as a relevant DBS.

What will I get out of serving with this team?

Helping children develop their understanding of God and
relationship with God is incredibly rewarding. We also have
a lot of fun and learn something ourselves along the way!

HOSPITALITY TEAM

All week, a dedicated team welcomes people through
being on the door, welcoming and giving out books,
organising social events, helping at Coffee/Squash after
church on a Sunday morning, being part of social
committees, holding lunches to welcome new people,
helping with refreshments at recitals, being a Church
Guide, helping with gardening, putting out chairs at
events/services, counting money, practical help with the
building - to name but a few ways.

How often will I serve as part of this team?
Although all of this sounds like a lot of work, having plenty
of people willing to serve means that you will not be called
upon more than once or twice a month, depending on
which activity you are helping with.

Do I need experience to serve?
Not at all, just a heart for welcome and hospitality. A huge
part of the Gospel message is offering hospitality to those
we meet, so we believe this is fundamental to our lives
together in our church community.

What will I get out of serving with this team?
Aside from the reward of seeing people being made
welcome when they join the church, you will get to know
so many people. So join us and make even more friends!

WORSHIP TEAM

When we come together on a Sunday, we are worshipping
God. Our worship team facilitates this in a variety of ways:
singing in the choirs (most weeks), being part of the St
Alphege Singers at the 9.15am twice a month, singing
and/or playing in the worship band at the All Age Service,
leading intercessions, operating the audio visual equipment
on a Sunday morning, being involved with drama, art,
photography.

How often will I serve as part of this team?

The worship band serves once a month at the All Age
Service, but others in the team may serve more frequently
or less. Let us know how you feel called to serve and we
can give you more details.

Do I need experience to serve?

Not in all areas. Obviously a reasonable level of musical
ability is required for the choirs and worship band, but
otherwise a willingness to learn is all you need.

What will I get out of serving with this team?

Enabling others to worship, while worshipping yourself is a
great feeling. It’s exciting to encounter the Holy Spirit
together!

PASTORAL CARE AND SOCIAL ACTION TEAM

As Christians, we are called to serve others for the sake of
the Gospel. There are so many people in our community
and further afield whose lives we work to make better. We
have teams of people visiting people, assisting people with
dementia, carrying out bereavement follow up, organising
social events for the elderly, providing lifts to and from
church services, supporting the quarterly Sunday service at
Solihull Hospital by fetching patients from the wards.

You can also work with the homeless through SCAH and asylum
seekers through Solihull Welcome. You can be part of the Lay
Chaplaincy Team for the Town Centre, be part of parenting
groups, the debt counselling team, Fairtrade work, help to deliver
goods to the food bank and be part of our Diocesan links with
Malawi and Bolivia. So there are a lot of ways you can help!

How often will I serve as part of this team?

The team has a variety of different groups, so how often you
serve depends on which groups you are part of. Essentially,
you could be involved as much as you are able.

Do I need experience to serve?

Some of the areas might require specific knowledge, but
otherwise a passion for pastoral care, a willingness to learn
and a relevant DBS is all you need.

What will I get out of serving with this team?

You will meet many people in your work, through which you
will be serving God. We know that God has a heart for those
in need so through doing God’s work in Solihull you will see
your own faith deepening, as well as that of those you serve.
