“Empowering Advocacy &
Civility among Nurses”

MEDGAR EVERS COLLEGE

Located in Crown Heights,
Brooklyn, Medgar Evers College
is a growing institution offering
both Associate and Baccalaureate
degrees. The nearly 7,000-member
student body is primarily comprised
of those who are the first in their
families to attend college. A senior
college within The City University
of New York (CUNY) system,
Medgar Evers College was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the
educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community. With a
commitment to students who desire a sound academic foundation as well
as an opportunity for personal development, Medgar Evers College seeks
to provide high-quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree
programs in the context of a liberal arts education.

The college is proud of the strong academic programs offered through its
four Schools. We provide a solid foundation of general education to prepare
our students to achieve personal and academic goals, through an approach
that is fundamentally qualitative and transformative with a student-centered
curriculum. We believe that education has the power to positively transform
the lives of individuals and is the right of all individuals in the pursuit of self-
actualization. Consequently, the College’s mission is to develop and maintain
high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs.

MEDGAR EVERS COLLEGE SEAL

Medgar Wiley Evers and his dedication to attaining a
new birth of freedom, where all humankind could obtain
knowledge, enjoy the protection of justice and live in peace,
inspired the Medgar Evers College seal. The seal consists of
unshackled hands, scales of justice, an oil lamp over an open
book and the founding date.

The unshackled hands represent freedom. The scales represent justice. The lamp
and the open book represent knowledge. The seal is formed by the peace symbol
to represent the universal cry for peace.
