Saffron Walden
GOLF CLUB Pro-Am 2018
Friday 3rd August 2018

Arthur Rank Hospice supports people in Cambridgeshire who are living with a life- limiting illness and those who need end-of-life care. Our services are provided free of charge to patients and their families, to help make every moment count.
We care for people at the Hospice in Cambridge, the day treatment centre in Wisbech and in patient’s own homes through the Arthur Rank Community team. The support provided by our inpatient unit, day therapy services and Hospice at Home is practical,
h
Arthur Rank Hospice Charity needs to secure £7.45 million every year to deliver our services free of charge to patients and their loved ones. About half of this currently comes from statutory sources with further funds raised through our Bistro, education services, conference facility and hairdressing salon. The remainder is raised thanks to the wider
h
physiotherapy, complementary therapy, occupational therapy, rehabilitative support, counselling, bereavement and spiritual support.

A message from our Captains
On behalf of Saffron Walden Golf Club, Justine and I would like to extend a very warm welcome to those of you taking part in this year’s Pro-Am.
Your support will enable us, as in previous years, to raise a considerable amount of money for
our chosen Captains Charity, which this year is, the ‘Arthur Rank Hospice’.
The Arthur Rank Hospice Charity provides end-of-life care for adults and children in
h
palliative care through its home based team. It provides an ‘Overnight Hospice at Home’ service in addition to a wealth of other vital services.
In August 2015 The Arthur Rank Hospice achieved their ambition of becoming an independent Hospice and by November 2016 had moved into a new, purpose built facility at Shelford Bottom. In so doing they doubled the number of patients they were able to cater for while considerably expanding their range of services. The scale of the operation means they are largely dependent

here today.
The Pro-Am at Saffron Walden has become a prestigious event organised by the Walden Charity Committee. Its continued success is due to a great deal of hard work by its Chairman,
Andrew Fisher, who along with John Roberts, oversee the whole event. They are supported by their committee and by the General Office team to ensure all our professionals and players have a very special day.

thank them all for their wonderful contributions!
We hope you enjoy our course and that those of you who are regular visitors approve of the changes we have made since last summer. These are part of an ongoing development programme which is due for completion in time for our Centenary Celebrations, next year in 2019.
However most of all, we hope you enjoy the day, the golf, the company and the sheer fun we have from playing this wonderfully infuriating game!

Pro Am welcome
It gives me great pleasure to welcome fellow professionals to the Saffron Walden Charity Pro Am.
This is the 5th year in succession that the Pro Am has been run here and the backing from the members and the sponsors continues to grow.
Last year the Walden Charity generously donated £2000 towards a junior scholarship
h
them to continue their progress in golf. A couple of stand out examples are Louis Martin who has had a fine year at the Lee Westwood school and Josh Izod who seems to be winning events across the country on a weekly basis, most recently the IAPS National title in Wales. Having this extra funding has allowed the coaching staff to spend more time with individuals and get the team together on a regular basis which touch wood seems to paying dividends as they are top of the league and recently won the three man

The Pro Shop Staff are continuing to work in the local community and with the support of the Golf Foundation we are involved in schools and youth clubs in the area, these projects are showing real results in bringing golf to a younger audience. In addition we have had real success in our “Get ladies into Golf’ initiative, this year alone we have produced
30 new lady members and look forward to continuing the programme.
I'm pleased to say that you will find the course in excellent condition, last year we

his team have presented the course superbly all year. You will also notice a couple of changes from last year on the 14th and 15th holes, in my opinion the best changes I have seen since the course redevelopment started. The bunkering and tree work have really changed the way the holes play, we have one more year of redevelopment before we stop just in time for the centenary.

A Message from the PGA in England (East)
Welcome to Saffron Walden Golf Club for the 2018 Pro-Am, an event which I am sure as always, will be one of the highlights of The PGA in England (East) regional calendar. A huge amount of planning and effort goes into organising pro-am events. In particular my thanks go to John Roberts and his team for all their hard work in getting everything ready for today and for ensuring that we all, professional golfers, PGA officials, club members

Once again, on behalf of the PGA, I would like to wish you a very enjoyable and
po

The region’s professional players enjoyed yet another successful year in 2017. Superb support from established and new sponsors and marvellous hospitality from host clubs and their officials and staff once again made major contributions to providing challenging golfing competition, driving up the standard of play. In return I am sure every amateur competing in pro-am events benefited from their PGA Professional on the day.
Over 100 PGA affiliated events were staged in our region last year, including the 4

Merit Series. With our extensive media coverage sponsors and venues are able to successfully promote their business, golf courses and facilities to a wider audience. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the PGA in England (East) professionals all the very best for the 2018 season in both regional and national events.
Any amateurs reading this and who wish to play in other PGA administered events within the PGA in England (East), please contact our headquarters on 01279 652070, and my staff
