 What’s Happening It has been a very busy 100 or so days! We are excited to be sharing our first Dispatch
 Welcome New Members newsletter. In it you will find many of the items Sara and I have been working on. The
 Upcoming Events Board and committees have been charged and are working on projects and engagements
 Sandy Brindle Art Event for all our members.
 What’s Been Happening Last week we were officially recognized as a South Carolina Welcome/Visitor’s Center!
We hope this will generate more foot traffic to the office and give us the opportunity to
at the Chamber share what is so special about Hickory Grove, McConnells, Sharon, Smyrna & York. We
 Our Sponsors have rearranged the Chamber to reflect a welcome center and have items for sale as well
as many brochures and informational packets. Please, if you have new marketing
material, drop it off, we would love to display it.

The membership committee has begun an ambassador program which we hope will reengage members and provide
a clearing house for information.

The community Involvement Committee just finalized the interview process for the Chamber Scholarship and the
Winners will be announced May 8th.

Local Artist in Residency Program

Sandy Brindle - The chamber has

paired with local artist in the area to display
and sell their work for 3 months. We are
thrilled to showcase Artist Sandy Brindle of
Sharon.
Sandy has original water colors as well as
Giclee’s in the chamber offices for
sale. We are so excited to offer this venue
for our area artists and now that we have
been designated a Welcome/Visitors Cen-
ter this will give them even more expo-
sure. Artist who are interested in display-
ing in the chamber must be from one of the
areas we serve. Please contact Mary
Catherine to receive an application.

Western York County Senior Expo 2017

Filbert Presbyterian Church - Will once again be hosting the Senior Expo this year on Wednes-

day, May 31st from 9am to Noon. They are located on Hwy 321 in York, SC. Space is limited to 50 ven-
dors.
The Senior Expo is brought to you by, the Clover Chamber of Commerce, Lake Wylie Chamber of Com-
merce, and the Greater York Chamber of Commerce.
Reservation Deadline is May 12, 2017.

Meeting Room Update

We are excited to announce some changes to our meeting space. We
now have 2 area for members to meet. The front small conference
area and the large conference room in the back. Within the next
month the large conference room will be completely enclosed with a
door separating it from the from of the chamber. We have also added
to this room, a TV for presentations and a projector and screen as
well. Please contact Sara to reserve your spot. We have some new
procedures for reserving the spaces and Sara will be happy to share
WITH YOU! We are doing repairs on the building and are excited get
this process moving. Please be patient with us as this may mean
some changes in our hours and meeting room availability.

Old English Painters Guild Art Seminar - The Chamber hosted an art seminar on April 22 and 23,

2017. There were 19 participants over the weekend from North Carolina, (Pineville, Albemarle, Gastonia), South
Carolina (Tega Cay, Fort Mill, Rock Hill), and Georgia. The Art Instructor is from Murphy, North Carolina. Our guests
assured us they thoroughly enjoyed a very successful event

Empowering Women Seminar

The Chamber hosted a group of approxi-
mately twenty five women on Friday, April
28th for a seminar on empowering women.

Congratulations to Daisy Burroughs. Daisy was crowned
Miss Strawberry Festival at the S.C. Strawberry Festival
Pageant held Saturday night at Nation Ford High School.

We celebrated with Patrick and his staff
at their new office located at 107 S. Con-
gress St, in Downtown York.

Balloon-azon Velma Love, Story Catalyst

A good time was had by all as we celebrated with
Velma Love and attendees for the opening of her
new office located at 27 S. Congress St., in
Downtown York.

We kicked off our first Balloon-azon on the 1st Friday in March
with balloons lighting up the Downtown street unto the evening
as merchants and visitor’s enjoyed an evening of music, art,
dining and shopping. We have since added fun for the children
with a bouncy house and Pelican’s SnoBall’s.

Congressional House Seat 5 Candidate Forum

The Greater York Chamber hosted a candidate information
forum April 20th at York Electric Cooperative. The Candi-
dates were introduced by moderator Rick Jiran of Duke
Energy and were given seven (7) minutes to speak about
themselves and the issues they felt were important to dis-
cuss. After all the candidates had spoken there was an in-
formal meet and greet where voters could interact individual-
ly with the candidates. A special “Thank you” to our Modera-
tor, Rick Jiran and Your Electric Cooperative representatives
Marc Howie & Porter Gable.
