LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

It’s time to charge into summer at the Y! Summer is our most active season of the year – with swim
lessons, camp, water fitness, basketball, tennis, karate, dance, new elite sports performance and
disease prevention classes, and most of all, fun!

While you enjoy all of the family summer activities that the Y has to offer, we invite you to learn more &
about what the Y does, and who we are. We are not just a gym, we’re a cause, committed to working
in our community to provide services and programs for those in need. We are a non-profit, raising
money to support children and families in our community. And we are a one-stop-shop for busy
moms who can fulfill all of their family needs – camp, sports, water safety/swim lessons, and health
fitness- in one place. Most importantly, the Y is a place where everyone- regardless of income, race,
or status- can develop healthy habits they will carry with them throughout their lives.

When you come to the Y you will be welcomed by people who are genuine and caring, determined to help you find an enriching
experience and hopeful that you will grow in spirit, mind, and body. Before the summer starts, we invite you to join us for
Healthy Kids Day, the Y’s national initiative to teach kids how to continue to be active in mind, health and body during the
summer months. Healthy Kids Day will be held at Bradenton Riverwalk from 10AM-2PM on April 21 and will feature vendors,
crafts, an obstacle course, a free fishing clinic, and more!

Our programs do more than just care for children – they are an opportunity to learn, create, play, empower, and grow. We
hope you will join us for the Best Summer Ever!

GIVING BACK

LIVING OUR CAUSE

Building a Stronger Community

Annual Support Campaign - For a Better Us

In February, the Manatee YMCA began our annual campaign to raise the funds needed to
engage and connect all segments of our community, particularly those in underserved and
isolated neighborhoods. When you give to the Y, your generosity reaches children, families
and seniors in our neighborhoods. Your gift will help people achieve their potential, empower
people of all ages to lead healthier lives, and strengthen our community.

Last year more than 1,400 families in Manatee County were able to participate in Y
programs and services through our Annual Support Campaign. To give to the campaign, visit
manateeymca.org call (941) 798-9622 x305.

SOAR - Special Organized Adult Recreation

The Manatee YMCA offers year-round social and recreational programs for adults with
a variety of special needs and ability levels. Participants explore a packed calendar of
events including field trips, exercise, crafts, socialization, games, swimming, and more!
They also learn skills that contribute to successful employment, explore social and
volunteer opportunities, and experience a sense of community. The program is offered
at the Parrish YMCA and the Lakewood Ranch YMCA. For more information about
SOAR, contact Stacey McKee at [email protected] or (941) 798-9622 x305.

Book Drive

More than 60% of students in Manatee County Schools do not have a grade level book at
home. In March, the Manatee YMCA delivered more than 1,000 books to Oneco
Elementary and each student got to pick out a book to take home. Special thanks to
The Early Learning Coalition, Braden River High School Key Club, YDash locations, BMO
Harris Bank, and Grimes Goebel Grimes Hawkins Gladfelter & Galvano, P.L. for their
generous donations!

Middle School Leadership/Success Camps u

In partnership with Harvest Methodist Church, Lakewood Ranch YMCA
Campers will learn how to navigate common challenges, ask questions,
and get advice to be successful. 5-week camp week topics include “What’s Important to me?” “Team Work,” “My Success
Plan,” “Leadership and Character Devlopment,” and “Leadership and Goal Setting.” For more information, visit the
Welcome Desk or manateeymca.org/programs/camp.

South County Easter Eggstravaganza

The Manatee YMCA held our first annual Easter Eggstravaganza egg hunt at a free
family event in March. The event featured 10,000 eggs, bounce houses, food,
vendors, games and more in the back fields behind Harllee Middle School. Families
and kids had a blast!
