WELCOME FROM... Chief Officer

Our

As we approach the end of 2017 it seems fitting to draw a breath and reflect on what we have all
achieved in this past year.

I continue to be astounded as the enormity of the work we do and the difference we make to
local communities everyday. I therefore embrace this opportunity to wholeheartedly thank our
Board, staff and volunteers for all the hard work they have done to ensure we continue to deliver

excellent services to our local communities in North West Glasgow.

I also extend this wholehearted thanks to our various stakeholders and local and national
partners for their continued support for our vital community services, and to our elected
members in the North West for their support and visits to our Bureau throughout 2017.

2018 will undoubtedly be an important year as we see the transition of our Bureau into fittingly
new and larger premises, with all the exciting and positive developments this will undoubtedly

yield for our wider communities.

And on that note, this leaves me to say only this:
have a wonderful festive break, and here’s hoping that prosperity, happiness and fulfilment finds

us all in the New Year to come.

Scottish Minister Launches Benefit

Entitlement Campaign right here at

MAPCAB

MAPCAB were delighted to be chosen as the Bureau to receive a visit from Scottish Minister for
Social Security, Jeane Freeman, to launch the uptake of benefits for over 65s.

It was great for our Staff and Volunteers to be part of such an important campaign that CAS and
Scottish Bureaux have teamed up with the Scottish Government to launch, to bring awareness to

those over 65 of the benefit they are entitled to.

We were happy to welcome Jeane to MAPCAB along with the Citizens Advice Scotland Team and
hope they enjoyed meeting our fantastic team!

Top photo includes:
Sarah Erskine, MAPCAB CO; Derek Mitchell, CAS CEO; Jeane Freeman, Scottish Social Security Minister;

Brian Sloan, Age Scotland CEO; Elizabeth Gray, MAPCAB Board Chair.

MAPCAB welcomes our very own

Maryhill MSP

We had the pleasure of welcoming our Maryhill & Springburn MSP Bob Doris to
the Bureau, meeting our staff and volunteers.

It was a great afternoon of interacting with our local MSP, sharing our Bureau
experiences, spreading the word about the amazing work we do and hearing from

Bob about his constituency office and how they work to benefit the community
and make a difference. All mixed together with a little Tea, Coffee and of course

some delicious cake.

It was great to Welcome you along to the Bureau, Bob - always welcome!

FLASH

Community Food Resource
Launch

For the past six months we have partnered with Woodlands Community to run a a Community Food
Development Project to establish and develop links with community groups and emergency food aid providers

to help combat the impacts of welfare reform.
As a result, we are proud to launch our new Community Food Resource that will help both public and
organisations alike, map out community food services and emergency food aid providers. After months of hard

work we are finally able to share with you all the amazing facilities throughout Glasgow.
The Community Food Mapping Resource was released at our Launch Event on Monday 4th December at
Woodlands Community Cafe, where our project leader Alex presented his findings from the project, officially

distributed the Food Map and Information Packs plus there was a chance to experience the Woodlands
Community Cafe 3 course meal and atmosphere.

At our recent Volunteer evening we congratulated and presented two of our trainee
volunteers with their competency certificates, which means they are now fully trained.

Congratulations
Charlie & Sandra!

HELLO TO OUR
NEW VOLUNTEERS

After a month of training our new trainees have entered the Bureau getting hands on
training from support staff & trained advisers in their path to gain their competency and

become fully trained themselves.
It is great seeing the team grow each time a new set of volunteers join us as without

them the Bureau would not function day-to-day.

MY MAPCAB JOURNEY - PETER MISU SECIOV REETNULOV

HobCdwefiArdeoBlnomynoaTvguepoahahlmuraotnvp&oeteefwyettoohrhiuenagtget? I have been with CAB since October 2014, first as a volunteer and
from October 2017 I was made a permanent member of staff.

I wanted to gain skills that will help in gaining employment and I
wanted to broaden my knowledge in welfare benefit system.

I like MAPCAB, due to the friendliness staff and volunteers MbleAikiWnPegChbaApetaBsdrttotaeobyafoomtuuh?te
and the level of support given to volunteers is invaluable,

the ambience in the office is very welcoming.

vHoboltueGrwanncentehunesfareeiircstrreAiiaoanwbdlnliteisvitirntthinoosSglyebeyuoreao?paueupsrnrort It has made the transition very smooth and I have a better
understand of the processes.

I am currently enjoying my role as a generalist support advisor;
however this could not have been possible without the support of

the whole team.

If you are a former volunteer and have went into further education, employment or
placements we would like to keep up to date with you all and your success,
as it is great for us to see here at the Bureau.

NHS Team beat their last Year's
Financial Gain total

Our NHS Project has beaten their last Year's financial gain amount, which mean
excellent news for our clients.

Beating their last year's total by an amazing £2 Million!
(Sept 16 - Sept 17)

Well done team and what fantastic work.

Fantastic work recognised
by CEMVO

The CEMVO Ethnic Minority Impact Awards recognise individuals or organisations
that have contributed to Scottish society or made a difference to their community

locally or nationally.

Two of our very own team, Zhila - who works as part of our Equalities Team and Peter
- who was one of our long service volunteers and just recently added to our Staffing
Team - were both nominated for awards and attended the exciting Awards Ceremony
at the Marriott Hotel.

It was great for CAB services to recognised this way and we appreciate the
nominations for our team, who work hard on a daily basis to help support our clients -

great work from everyone!

We want to thank all clients that give us feedback on our service and kindly thank us with gifts, it is very much appreciated.
