Welcome!

Welcome to Cheer Sport Sharks - home of the most decorated teams in Canada!  We are
excited to be entering our 15th season and have learned over the years that while all of the
trophies, banners, jackets and rings are great accolades, nothing compares to the feeling of
belonging to the Shark family.
While All-Star Cheerleading has exploded in growth in Canada, we believe that not all gyms
are the same.  With over 1000 cheerleaders in 4 locations across Ontario, we are the largest
program in the country with an International
reputation as the premier gym of its kind.  Through
all of this, we’ve stuck to our humble beginnings and
kept the focus on developing our youth through this
amazing sport.
With Cheer Sport, you’ll gain life lessons that you’ll
take with you far beyond your years of
cheerleading.  We see our athletes achieve success
through gaining confidence, building lifelong
friendships, developing a strong work ethic and
understanding that a team is only successful when
hard work towards a common goal is achieved.
Young athletes with big dreams go far in life!
Welcome to the Shark family.

Tumbling Options

Tumbling is an important part of competitive cheerleading. The term tumbling is used to describe gymnastic elements such as
cartwheels and back handsprings. Our tumbling packages are designed for athletes who are serious about advancing in the
sport. If your daughter loves tumbling and cheerleading – she should be training her skills with our coaches who know the sport
of cheerleading inside and out. Local gymnastics clubs do not offer the same level of expertise in cheerleading specific tumbling.
Athletes training with a tumbling package at Sharks advance their skills much quicker.

For families wishing to purchase a yearly tumbling package, this will be available as of Wednesday May 17th.
Tumbling sign ups to book all your lessons will be released on May 28th as of 9:00am through Amilia. There are many benefits
to being a package holder, including a savings of 10-15%, consistent schedule with a level appropriate coach, three different
progress reports throughout the season and priority registration with guest instructors.

How to purchase a tumbling package:
Step 1: View tumbling availability one week prior to purchasing on Wednesday May 10th.

Step 2: Purchase your package on Amilia, available May 17th through June 29th for registered Shark athletes.
Packages are based on availability and may sell out.

Step 3: On Sunday May 28th at 9:00am, select your lessons online through Amilia for the entire season.

Important

Dates & Details

Attendance Policy:

• Athletes get stronger, advance their skills and begin choreography during the summer. Practices are important, but we do
want families to enjoy their summer vacation time, camps, and other summer activities. Summer practice policy is (May 29th -
September 4th); if you are in town, we need you at practice. We have created a very “weekend friendly” summer schedule so
that families can still enjoy all weekends together. With the exception of our choreography week outlined on page 6. Athletes will
be learning their entire routine during this time, and their attendance is required.

• During the competitive season (September-April) practice is essential to the success of the teams. Teams are most
successful when they abide by our attendance policy. Our attendance policy is as follows: We expect that all efforts are made
to attend team practices and that families take their commitment seriously. Cheerleading at the Sharks must be a priority for
your family. If your athlete is absent from practice, it negatively impacts the team, and will effect their role in the routine. The 4
practices leading up to a competition are known as ‘Black Out Practices’ and absolutely can not be missed. Any athletes that
miss, do so with the understanding that the coaches may make modifications to the routine to better prepare the team for
success. Missing a Black Out practice may result in an athlete not being able to compete at the upcoming event. Continued
attendance issues will be addressed by the program manager and can impact your athletes future team placement.

• Competitions are also mandatory, athletes and their families are expected to
make every effort to attend. Please look carefully at the competition schedule, and
take into consideration the travel and fees associated with each team. Most of our
teams will travel to the USA and need a passport.

Competition Items

In order to compete on a team at Cheer Sport Sharks there are a number of
competition items that your daughter may require. These items vary by team and
will be confirmed at team orientations.

• Make-Up ($10 - $50)

Uniform sizing will take place at orientation or during the the first week of practices.

Cheer Sport Coaches

What an incredible journey the Cheer Sport Sharks has been for co-founders
Ali Moffatt and Alana Potter.
It all started over 16 years ago with a dream, a vision and most importantly a
passion for coaching the sport of competitive cheerleading.
At Cheer Sport Sharks your athlete will train in a safe and fun environment with
coaches who will help each athlete set and reach goals and offer them the
opportunity to grow as athletes and individuals.
All of our coaches are USASF certified in all areas of cheerleading. Our coaching
staff will use industry accepted coaching methods and standards to train our
athletes as well as leading edge techniques that set Cheer Sport above the rest.
We enjoy an extremely low staff turnover rate, with many of our coaches having
been with us since the very beginning which means they understand our
philosophy and teaching practices. Our coaches will teach skills that will last a
lifetime and build pride in not only their own accomplishments but also those of
the entire Shark family. Cheer Sport Sharks is home to amazing, caring
coaches who are truly invested in each individual athlete. We pride ourselves on
the difference they will make in your child’s life.
You will love the professionalism of our entire program. From the supportive
administrative staff to the trained coaches and friendly on-site desk diva team,
we truly value the families that are a part of our gym.
Train with world-class coaches who love and care about each individual athlete
and produce the most successful teams in all of Canada. If you have done cheer
before but are looking to take it to the next level, you won’t be disappointed with
our high caliber coaches that get results.

Keys to a Successful Season

Athlete Guidelines

a. We value hard working, positive athletes who understand that the TEAM comes before the individual.
b. Coaches reserve the right to modify routines as needed, and athletes will be expected to support decisions that are deemed as
best for the team.
c. We will only allow skills that have been mastered with proper technique to be competed. This is at the coaches discretion.
Skills permitted in a routine may change from Day 1 to Day 2 at a competition based on deductions.
d. Absolutely no jewelry can be worn to practice or competitions.
e. All athletes are expected to be good teammates, and no gossip, pettiness, bullying or alienating will be tolerated. These
continued behaviors are grounds for dismissal from our program.
f. Athletes are expected to maintain at a minimum, the skills they had at the start of the season. We reserve the right to move
athletes if they are not holding true to this expectation.
g. Athletes must treat their coaches, CITs, guest instructors, volunteers and admin staff with the utmost respect. We promise to
do the same for our athletes.
h. Athletes must communicate with coaches. If you don’t tell us you’re injured, we may not know!

Parent’s Role & Responsibilities

a. The Parents Role in the gym is simple – support the team and club by supporting your athlete in a positive manner. Be your
Child’s Cheerleader: Tell them that you’re proud of them and that you love them!
b. Pay all bills in a timely manner. Unfortunately athletes with past-due bills will be asked to sit out of practice.
c. The chain of command for parent information is as follows: i. Team Cheer Mom ii. Coach iii. Gym Directors – Ali & Alana
d. Support your athlete’s commitment to the team by ensuring they are at practice and following our attendance policy.
e. Stay in the know by upholding your end of communication, yes, that means reading emails!

Club-Wide Rules

a. Our goal is to teach athletes the responsibility that comes from maintaining commitment to a competitive team. This means
that we rely on parents to help us enforce our attendance policy by ensuring that your athlete does not let her team down by
continued absences. Removing cheer is not an acceptable form of punishment as it impacts the entire team.
b. NO GOSSIP will be tolerated. Please refrain from talking about other athletes, families, coaches, etc.
c. We strive to keep Cheer Sport a positive environment and take this very seriously. We will always be happy to talk about concerns;
however will not tolerate continued negativity. Persistent negativity from parents or athletes is grounds for dismissal from our program.
If you have a concern, please address it with the appropriate person so that we can solve it, or explain it. Let’s all work to keep Cheer
Sport a positive environment.
d. Please help to keep our gym as pretty as the day it opened! Tidy up after yourself and your children.
e. Parents are not permitted in the gym unless asked by a coach. We reserve the right to close practices should we feel it is in
the best interest of the athletes.
f. Our social media policy is as follows: Everyone affiliated with the Sharks must refrain from posting negative thoughts about the team,
gym, coaches, athletes or other programs. It’s simple – we feel that addressing concerns directly, versus on social media, is the only
acceptable method.
g. Please leave all valuables at home. We are not responsible for lost or missing items.
h. Our brand is extremely important to us and has taken years to develop. Permission to use our logo, name, or shark-specific words must
be obtained from Ali & Alana in writing. No exceptions.

The Sport of Cheerleading

a. We will always do what we feel is best for the team – there is no greater team sport than cheerleading! Routines may be modified, roles
may change, all in the name of what is best for the team. We ask that you understand and support our decisions. We strive to put the
most competitive team and routine on the floor that we can – you’ve come to the Sharks because of our tradition of excellence.
Please help us maintain this.
b. Safety is our number one concern. We have highly trained staff that are the best in the industry. We are proud of our safety record and
will follow proper progression with all athletes to maintain it.
c. Good sportsmanship is a win-win! Please treat all teams, athletes and gyms with respect.
d. Remember that you are a representation of our program and the sport of cheerleading please conduct yourself accordingly.
e. It’s all about the FUN that comes with working hard to achieve goals – that’s the Cheer Sport Sharks!
