COMMENTS

• This “Basic Formula” is a system designed to formulate a range of liquid personal care
products. This formula represents an advantage in saving time and efforts, all products in
one formula: liquid hand soap, bath foam, hair (conditioning) and shower shampoo products
or even foaming face cleansers, as main applications.

• Conditioning effect is achieved when QUARTAMIN® BTC-131 is added, specially, in hair care
products. Recommended process is explained above these lines.

COMPONENTS

AKYPO® SOFT 100 BVC (Sodium Laureth-11 Carboxylate ≈ 70 % a.m.): crypto-anionic character, it combines the
properties of the anionic and non-ionic surfactants. Foaming co-surfactant, with solubilizing properties and very mild for the
skin.

AMIDET® N (PEG-4 Rapeseedamide , ≈ 95% a.m. ): non-ionic character. Nitroso-amines free thickener. It increases the
foam volume and improves the quality of it. It reduces the irritation potential of the anionic surfactants on the skin. Multi-
functional agent. Previous name : AMINOL N

EMAL® 270 D (Sodium Laureth Sulfate, ≈ 70% a.m.) : anionic character. Primary surfactant, highly foaming. Good
detergent properties.

LEVENOL® H&B (Glycereth-2 Cocoate, ≈ 100% a.m.): non-ionic character. Extra-mild surfactant, with emulsifying
properties. Skin emollient and moisturizing agent .Foam booster and thickening agent. Ecological product. It doesn’t need
any risk or safety warnings on its label. In hair rinse application increases the conditioning effect of the cationic component,
giving smoothness. % of use in Hair Rinse = between 0.1 - 2%

QUARTAMIN® BTC-131 (Behenoyl PG-Trimonium Chloride, ≈ 70% a.m.): cationic character. Conditioning surfactant. It
provides smoothness, shine and anti-static properties to the hair, making easy to comb it. It doesn't present cumulative
effect. Environmentally friendly cationic surfactant.

RECOMMENDED OPERATIVE METHOD

 Process at room temperature.
 Add ALFANOX 46, LEVENOL C-201 and ICTEOL K-50 to the water and stir till complete

solubility. Continue with the addition of Butildiglycol and finally Sodium Citrate. After each
addition stir till complete transparency.

 Continue with the addition of perfume, preservative and dyes.

COMMENTS

 Surfactants have to be stable at this high pH. The surfactants with a non-ionic character are the
most suitable for this application, because they don’t ionise in water solution and therefore are
more stable in front of hardness.

 Solvents have to be included to solve the remaining dirt.

COMPONENTS

ALFANOX 46 (sodium  -olefin sulphonate,  37% a.m.): anionic character. Primary surfactant. It increases foam volume
and improves dispersion of the dirt.

ICTEOL K-50 (potassium oleate,  50% a.m.): anionic character. Detergent soap and foam controller.

LEVENOL C-201 (glycereth-17 cocoate,  100% a.m.): non-ionic character. Mild surfactant which decreases the irritation
level of anionic surfactants, increasing performance and dispersion of the dirt. Foaming controlled surfactant. Eco-
toxicologically friendly. It doesn’t need any risk sentences or warnings on its label.

Butyldiglycol (glycol): hydrotrope product. It is specially recommended to maintain the liquid form of the products. It also
acts as dirt emulsifier, mainly in a direct application.

Sodium Citrate : chelating effect.

COMMENTS

 Alkaline pH in strong hard surfaces cleaners is needed to ensure complete fatty dirt and soil
saponification.

 Surfactants have to be stable at this high pH. Also amine oxides can be used is more foam is
required.

 Gluconic acid can be substituted by sodium gluconate.

COMPONENTS

BETADET S-20 (Lauryl Hydroxysultaine,  38% a.m.): amphoteric character. Foaming and detergent surfactant. It
improves the stability of the formula at extreme pH’s and at low temperature. Good water hardness stability. Very mild
surfactant It decreases the irritation of anionic surfactants on the skin. Additional thickening effect.
Gluconic acid : used in high alkaline preparations to avoid iron rust from metallic surfaces. Its salts can be also used for
the same application.

RECOMMENDED OPERATIVE METHOD

• Process at room temperature.
• Add QUARTAMIN® TH-V and FINDET® 10/18 to the deionized water and stir till complete

transparency.

• Continue with the addition of DEQUEST 2066.

• Adjust pH to around 3, using citric acid for that purpose.
• Add the AOCOLOR 50%.

• Continue with the addition of the fragrance and stir until compete transparency.
• Adjust viscosity using Sodium Xylene Sulfonate.

• Check the pH again, and if necessary, adjust to the indicated value (pH ≈ 2) with citric acid
(use NaOH in the unlikely case it is necessary to increase the pH value).

COMMENTS

• Aspect: products on the market are transparent liquids, colourless or slightly coloured (pink,
blue…).

• The addition of the phosphonate derivatives is recommended to improve the H2O2 stability in
the final formula. The percentage will depend on the type of phosphonate as well as on its
content on active matter.

• In order to avoid stability and decomposition problems, the fragrances must be H2O2 stable.

• Sodium Xylene Sulfonate is used for viscosity adjustment.

• The pH adjustment just before the addition of AOCLOR 50% to a higher value than that of the
final formula, is because this product is an acidic product that will lower the pH value of the
mixture when added.

COMPONENTS

FINDET® 10/18 (deceth-6, ≈ 100% a.m.): non-ionic character. Detergent, degreaser and emulsifier. Very good wetting
agent.

QUARTAMIN® TH-V (ceteartrimmonium chloride , ≈ 50% a.m.): cationic character. Conditioning and anti-static surfactant. It
is recommended for transparent fabric softeners. In combination with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), it can be used in laundry
products as disinfecting and bleaching agent and also in hard surface cleaners.
