www.humboldtcreamery.com No More Preseason
Dinner ... What?!

ARCATA — Before Crabs season starts, the Humboldt Crabs
Baseball organization always wants to do something special for
Crabs fans prior to opening night.

Many of you have attended the annual preseason dinner and
silent auction at the Arcata Community Center. The Crabs and the
City of Arcata had produced the dinner there for the last ten years.

We thought it was time to shake things up. We decided on a
more economical and family friendly “get together,” at the ballpark.
A Fan Fest would be something new and exciting the whole family
could do together. For only $5 a ticket, we hoped more kids would
be able to attend. Plus, Humboldt Creamery contacted us and
wanted to give away FREE ice cream! Can’t say no to that.

In addition, some of the players had mentioned to us in the
past, that they were overwhelmed at the dinner with our Crabs
devotion and enthusiasm. Remember, it was their very first night
in Humboldt. So, we felt having all of us rabid fans meet the
college players in an environment they’re comfortable in — like
the ballpark during batting practice — would be less intense for
them. We’d still have to explain the cowbells and the band though.

We always get requests from fans that they want to be able
to watch the Crabs take batting practice before the games. The
Crabs are in the cage first and then the visiting team takes their
hacks after them, 45 minutes or so prior to game time. So, we
can’t allow fans inside the ballpark until our entire staff is ready
to serve you at 6pm. Beer, burgers, bathrooms, tickets, and
souvenirs all have to be ready when the gates open. But now,
you’ll finally get to watch batting practice at Fan Fest!

We have asked manager, Tyson Fisher, to make sure the
players wear their jerseys at Fan Fest. It would of been really hard
to identify all the new players and fresh faces.

Your $5 admission from Fan Fest will go toward funding
improvements made at the Arcata Ballpark such as new nets,
concrete slabs in right field, and general maintenance. In addition,
American Legion, Little League, high school teams and other
college teams, like College of the Redwoods rent the ballpark —
so your generosity goes a long way to help improve the city-
owned ballpark.

You may have noticed the City of Arcata did a great job on the
new F Street sidewalk leading into the ballpark. Many of these
new improvements will happen slowly over time and it’s because
of you that the Arcata ballpark is a destination for tourists who visit
Arcata in the summer for the first time.

impossible schedule with 30 at home and 30 away. How
many games do you play?
Our CCL league plays around 42 league games and then
we will try and schedule 8 more games with other teams
not in our league. So, we tend to play around 50 games
over the summer. Since some of our favorite teams like the
Marysville Gold Sox are now in the Great West League,
it makes our scheduling even more difficult. It’s become
harder for us to find teams to play.
The Northwoods League may be a tougher schedule than
the Great West League though. Some coaches and players
want to go the Northwoods League for a perceived higher
level of competition, but I wonder if they know what they’re
getting into. The Northwoods teams play around 68 games
in 70 days.
When you have to play more than 50 games, you need
a much large roster. You need an extra pool of players to
draw from and you’ve got to have a lot of pitchers. I carry
about a 30 to 33-man roster for our 50 games.

Seals Baseball Club

The Seals are the Collegiate Level baseball team that is
composed of players from NCAA Division I, II, NAIA schools
and Junior College. The Seals were established in 1985 and
have a rich history in the Bay Area, having spent 10 years
based in San Francisco, 10 years in San Rafael, 5 years in
Sonoma, 4 years in Oakland and 1 year based in Alameda.
The Seals’ organizational purpose is to provide collegiate
level players with the best opportunity to play in a professional
environment but also to provide community with quality, family-
oriented baseball fun. The Seals are an organization that is
looking to optimize the level of baseball for all ages.

The 2014 Seals went to Wichita for
the prestigious NBC Tournament

Aside from being successful on the field, our key
organizational goals consist of working with local city leaders
and business owners to create local job opportunities. In
addition, the Seals Baseball Club wants to be valued members
of the community through our organizational commitment to
community outreach and both advanced and beginner camps
for the local youth here in Alameda. It is through these efforts
that the Seals Baseball Club looks to build a long lasting
partnership with the city of Alameda.

MISSION STATEMENT
The Seals are a collegiate level summer baseball club
dedicated to serving the youth in Northern California and
providing positive role models for them. The club’s primary
focus is to build character and discipline through the sport of
baseball. It is our belief that baseball builds strong leadership
qualities needed to succeed in life by instilling honest work
ethics, maintaining good physical health, and engaging
with community of all ages and walks of life. Service to the
community is a cornerstone of who the Seals are as an
organization. Community service is not only a requirement of
all our athletes involved with the program but also something
the Seals instill as a foundational approach to life. We believe
every child should have every opportunity to learn and play
the game of baseball at the highest levels and thus provide
a mechanism to deliver quality instruction, competition and
entertainment.
