Dear friends of the congregation,

As I reflect on the 2015-2016 Annual Report from the IHM congregation,
my heart is filled with gratitude. First of all, I am grateful for the
call to leadership at this particular time and the gifts this ministry
continue to bring me. I am also grateful for the gift of the IHM Sisters
and Associates with whom I am blessed to walk at this time in our
history. Finally, I am grateful to you, our friends and donors, for your
inspirational giving.

Together with the other members of the Leadership Council, we walk in the
spirit of our founders who, more than 170 years ago, risked everything to say
“yes” to God’s call as the IHM congregation began on the banks of the River
Raisin in Monroe, Mich. Our co-founders began “without thinking of the future
of the work, leaving it to God alone.” Over these years in our leadership term,
we too found ourselves on the threshold of an uncertain future. Yet, with the
commitment of those who share our vision and values, we continue to live
the message of Jesus, “to bring glad tidings to the poor; to proclaim liberty
to captives, recovery of sight to the blind and release to prisoners.”

During these years, we’ve celebrated the lives of many who have passed to
eternal life. We’ve reflected on and realized the gift of these women who
gave decades of their lives, committed to the mission of the IHM congregation.
I have also had the pleasure to visit the ministries of our women in various states
and in Puerto Rico. As I did so, I was able to see the ministry through the eyes
of our women, through the eyes of the people they serve. What a blessing!
While we stand on the threshold of an unknown future, my heart is filled with
hope and gratitude for the myriad ways we continue to live God’s call in our
world today.

All of this is made possible through you, through your inspirational giving.
Through your generous gifts in our various development initiatives, we are
able to continue our ministries and care for our women who have given so
much to God’s people. Let this Annual Report be a glimpse into our life and
ministries. We celebrated the centennial birthdays of some of our women
and we welcomed into our community women who answered God’s call
to vowed religious life. All is gift!

The Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary are committed to living Jesus’ liberating mission —
freeing people from all that binds them, be it poverty, hunger, loneliness, illiteracy, sickness or injustice.
We minister to God’s people in 19 states, Puerto Rico, Mexico, South Africa, South Sudan and Canada.
We also minister with other organizations and religious orders because the call of our time compels

Ministry Spotlight: IHM Sisters in South Sudan

The IHM Sisters have been engaged in education in various forms since the founding of the congregation
in 1845. This is no less so in South Sudan where IHM Sisters are ministering among the people of the newest
country in our world. Sisters Annette St-Amour and Joan Mumaw have been a part of Solidarity with South
Sudan since 2013 when Sister Joan first went to South Sudan. Sister Annette joined the Solidarity team
in 2014 after nearly 30 years of ministry in South Africa.

Over the first 170 years of the IHM Sisters’ existence, the quest for social justice has been an integral part of
who we are. We have always had a concern for the poor. During the first century and a quarter our focus was
on formal education, which we believed was the greatest liberator for that time. In post-Vatican II days, our
social consciousness evolved, and today we are challenged to integrate our various commitments with our
quest for justice. The lives of our oldest and newest members reflect this progression.

As of this writing, the 100 year-old mark has been reached by four members: Cecilia Campbell, Letitia O’Connell,
Margaret Sullivan and Charlotte Walby.

Sharing the Mission: IHM Associates

Since 1978, IHM associates have made a non-vowed commitment to share in the life and ministry of the IHM
community. Through prayer, community and ministry, associates have chosen to grow and serve with IHM
Sisters. Associates engage with IHM Sisters as active members in IHM Mission Units, participate in community
gatherings, serve on committees and collaborate in planning as well as facilitating retreats and a variety of
other events throughout the year. We have Associates throughout the United States as well as in Puerto Rico.

Dear friends and benefactors,

On behalf of the IHM Sisters and Development team, I would like to
thank you for your support and inspirational giving. As you review
this 2015-2016 Annual Report, you will see how your gift impacts the
ministry and retirement needs of the congregation. Your partnership
with the IHM Sisters helps us care for our elder sisters, advance our
mission and sustains our commitment to serve those in need.
Throughout the year, we hosted a variety of special events including the
Royal Blue Classic Golf Outing and Christmas Tribute Tree. In 2016, we
introduced the Theresa Maxis Award. Along with celebrating our co-founder,
this award recognizes community leaders who embody the values and vision
of the IHM community: deep faith, pioneering spirit, service to the poor,
commitment to justice. These events were fun-filled and special ways to
support the IHMs while welcoming our friends and benefactors who joined us.
The Annual Report includes an assortment of articles highlighting ministries,
members, associates, the Future of Hope Society, special events and an
extraordinary student making a difference. The gifts we receive, both large
and small, events-based and planned, play an integral role in supporting
the life and mission of the IHM community.
The sisters often share their gratitude with me as the director of Development.

The Future of Hope Society

Florence B. (Hanley) Hayes was born June 15, 1929. She and her three sisters and one brother attended
St. Charles Borromeo Elementary School and High School, located on the edge of Indian Village in Detroit.
It was there that they met the IHM Sisters and Florence’s lifelong care for and interest in the sisters began.

In 1951, she graduated from Marygrove College and The Future of Hope Society was created

Royal Blue Classic

The 2016 Royal Blue Classic golf outing was held on Monday, June 20, 2016. 
It was a beautiful day and through the generosity and support of those
who participated, more than $86,000 was raised to be used in the funding
of IHM ministries locally and around the world.
