Alamance Today

July 2018

From the Board

by Gerry Francis, President

Summer is here (95 degree heat) and activity is everywhere . . . in the pool, on the
golf course, in the restaurant, etc. And, as you are aware, the Amenity Lawn development
continues to make progress. I am optimistic that it will be completed by July 4, but not sure
about the furniture arrival date. The vision for the Amenity is that it will link the Clubhouse
to the pool serving as a fun gathering and event location for watching golfers finish their
rounds on #18, for hosting outdoor tented receptions, for having an outdoor eating venue,
and for relaxing around the firepit. We can’t wait to get it operational.

Additionally, the Long Range Planning Committee is at work developing both short
term and long term Club objectives. Particularly, how to most effectively use the downstairs of the Clubhouse;
planning for near term golf course upgrades; discussing how to enhance the pool environment and overall pool
experience; determining how to grow membership; and how to make the ACC experience even more exceptional.

And, as you are aware, we now have yet another significant objective for 2018, employing a new General
Manager. I am optimistic that we will be able to attract some talented individuals. Since hiring out last General
Manager we now have a beautiful, wonderfully renovated Clubhouse, a much sounder financial outlook, a growing
membership, and a happy membership. We are working with the leadership of the CMAA (Club Management
Association of America) and with other professionals to finalize our search strategies and appoint a Search
Committee. I will be sure to keep you attuned to our progress in this work. Your input and support are both
sought and appreciated.

Please keep us apprised of how we are doing and thank you for your support.

Gerry Francis,

Club President

Membership

by Leanna Giles, Membership Director | lgiles @alamancecc.net

Since January 1, 2018 we have welcomed 22 families to ACC! I attribute this exciting
growth to two things 1) Members recruiting Members and 2) Renovations as we can all see
the exciting physical improvements to the Clubhouse, and you can’t miss the amenity lawn
turning into a reality as you drive down Fairway Drive. I cannot put a value on Members
recruiting Members. Please invite friends, neighbors and colleagues to experience making
memories at ACC! Oh, and don’t forget we will offer you an incentive for helping us recruit
new members. Did you know we will give a $500 credit if you sponsor a new member?
Please continue to spread the word about our wonderful club and contact me personally
if you would like to bring a Prospective Member to visit the Club Please join me in welcoming the following new
members and thanking their sponsors.
New Members: Sam McIntyre, Laura Owens
Sponsors: Pete Burgess, Jim Hair

With warm regards, Leanna

Event Catering

by Brittany Myers, Catering Director | [email protected]

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer and using the pool to stay cool as the temperatures
rise! Just a reminder we are currently offering a private event referral program. If you refer a
friend, co-worker, family member, etc. to plan an event with us and host it, you will receive
25% off your dinner in the 1946 Grill. We still have space and dates available throughout the
summer months, so this is a great time to be planning something special! Furthermore,
December will be here before you know it, and the holiday event calendar is filling up quickly.
Please reach out today if you haven’t already to secure a date for your holiday celebrations.

Spring 2018 has been great with several weddings and receptions, and we invite you to
keep us in mind as your loved ones begin the planning process of their big day. We can assist with all of their
needs including menu planning, timelines, linens, and much more.

Finally, a reminder on space capacity for each of our private meeting rooms, based on a seated event.

Children & Youth Activities

I cannot believe we are already in the month full of fireworks, freedom and lots of pool
time. I am looking forward to July 4th around the Club this year. There will be some new
additions to the July 4th festivities for the children and families to participate in. Go ahead
and get those golf carts and bikes ready for a PARADE! I cannot wait to see all the decorated
golf carts and bikes participate around the pool.

I am also excited to say that we are finally offering an all-day camp for your children
to attend this summer. Your child can attend the All-Sports Camp in the morning from
9:00am - 1:00 pm, and then continue to hang out with me at the Club for Craft Camp from
1:00pm - 5:00pm. Spots are filling up quickly and we have a 15-child maximum for Craft
Camp. Please sign your child up via the member portal online. They do not want to miss
this! :) See you round the Club,

We are so happy that our first Late Night Swim Glow Party was a success! We had many games, prizes and glow
sticks for members and their families to enjoy! We hope to see more faces at Late Night Swim as we party on
Thursdays at the ACC pool!

The Board has passed new Pool Rules and we ask that members review these online or posted at Pool Control.
These rules are in place for member safety as we work toward the best and safest experience possible for our ACC
family!

July 4th will be our Independence Day Bash and Cookout! We will have a DJ and games every hour for all ages
including adults. On July 13th we will be having a Corn-Hole Tournament at 11:00am with prizes for our winners,
so brush up on your skills and we hope to see you there!

Our Home Swim Meets were very successful and we hope that you can help cheer on the Piranhas as they finish
up the swim season and compete at the Championships. Eliza Shepherd, Pool Manager

From Tee to Green

Peter Horn, As of mid June the golf course has looked and played very well. We had some rain early
CGCS in the month that has helped the bermuda grass get off to a good start. The thin areas are
filling in nicely with the help of some fertilizer and hot temperatures. We installed 10,000
Course square feet of sod in the areas around the greens that were bare and would not fill in by the
Superintendent end of summer.

With the summer heat and humidity on the way we will have to watch the greens really
close for wilt, disease and water management. The new fungicides available to us for
greens has helped us out a lot the past years. They are expensive but a must for the summer.

Our mowing schedule has been good so far. I like to get it done by noon Friday so we
don't interrupt play on the weekend. I think the mowing heights we have on the course are
dialed in good for member play. I know the green speeds are not what we had in spring.
One of the management tools we have to use on bentgrass is raise the height of cut during
the hot months. It is a necessary evil but it is only for a couple of months

Please, please remember to fix your ball marks on the greens. They won't heal without
your diligent duty.

Have a fun, safe summer. Peter Horn
