What Is An Operating System & Its Purpose?

• An operating system is the most important software that runs on a
computer. It manages the computer's memory as well as all of its
software and hardware. Without an operating system, a computer
is useless. The purpose of an operating system is to manage all of
the software on a computer. Typically there are different computer
programs running at the same time, and they all need to access the
(CPU), memory, and storage. The operating system coordinates all
of this to make sure each program gets what it needs.

Well Known Operating Systems:

• Android OS, Windows OS, & Apple OS
• Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8, & Macintosh OSX
• Windows XP, Windows Vista, & Windows 98

The first OS system was introduced before Microsoft Dos. H
Microsoft Dos was developed by Microsoft for IBM. Dos was I
an idea found and developed for programmers to use Disk, S
Floppy Disk or Hard disk. It was found in the 1980's. The first T
operating system used for real work was produced in 1956 by O
General Motors for its IBM 704. It was created in 1956 by R
Robert L. Patrick of General Motors Research and Owen Mock Y
of North American Aviation.

• Keeping track of usage
• Data and user security
• Providing system services such as print spooling
• Managing input / output
• Handling Network communication

The operating system
that I would choose out
of them all would be
android or apple os..
With a preference it
would be android just
for the fact that android
runs on many
manufactured devices so
there's options and than
you can customize it to
your liking

• Linux • OS X, UNIX

• Open source • Closed, with open source
components.
• A lot. Can change almost
anything. • Limited unless jailbroken

• Many phones and tablets. • iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad,
Apple TV
• Google Hangouts. 3rd party
apps • I Message, FaceTime (with
other Apple devices only).
