LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Each year we reflect on our success of the previous 12 months and look forward to our
responsibility to continue to do more good in our community. In 2018, the Y delivered on the
promise to strengthen the foundation of Manatee County by transforming lives and building
up our neighbors through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social
responsibility. Here are a few of our highlights:

We expanded our programming in South Manatee County and area schools, providing free
summer camp for disadvantaged kids, after school tutoring, and small-group instruction for
struggling readers.

Medical partnerships with area hospitals, nursing homes, and care centers helped change the
lives of those suffering from chronic diseases. Through preventative community health programs, participants find
strength to recapture their health and independence.

We expanded our senior programming at the Y, from specialized group exercise classes and water fitness to travel
programs, pickleball, caregivers support, groups, and informative lunch and learns, card games, events, and much
more.

Children in our youth sports programs, swim lessons, camps, and arts programs developed leadership and
teamwork skills and learned safety and fundamentals, all while having fun.

In 2019, fun and fitness at the Y will meet as we continue to bring the YMCAs mission outside of our main facility
walls – partnering with medical centers, local communities, parks, schools, and more as we continue to develop our
programs and encourage everyone – regardless of age or income - to take their first step towards developing a
healthy lifestyle. We are grateful to our volunteers, donors, staff, and community partners for helping us make a
difference – for a better Manatee County, and a better us.

-Sean Allison

GIVING BACK

LIVING OUR CAUSE

YMCA MISSION

To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Annual Support Campaign - For a Better Us

At the Y, we believe the desire to belong and help others is human nature, and
everyone has something of value to contribute to the greater good. We serve as
a catalyst for positive change in communities, bringing people together and giving
them opportunities to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others and their
own lives.

In February, the Manatee YMCA will begin our annual campaign to raise the funds
needed to engage and connect all segments of our community, particularly those in
underserved and isolated neighborhoods. When you give to the Y, your generosity
reaches children, families and seniors in our neighborhoods. Your gift will help people
achieve their potential, empower people of all ages to lead healthier lives,
and strengthen our community.

Last year more than 1,400 families in Manatee County were able to participate in Y programs and services through our
Annual Support Campaign. To give to the campaign, visit manateeymca.org call (941) 798-9622 x305.
For a better you. For a better community. For a better us.™

EVENTS SOAR - Special Organized Adult Recreation

The Manatee YMCA offers year-round social and recreational programs for adults
with a variety of special needs and ability levels. Participants explore field trips,
exercise, crafts, socialization, games, and more! They also learn skills that contribute
to successful employment, explore social and volunteer opportunities, and experience
a sense of community. The program is offered at the Parrish YMCA Mon-Thurs from
12:00-4:00PM and is $160/participant. For more information about SOAR, contact
Jamie Rusnak at [email protected] or (941) 798-9622 x203.

Book Drive

Did you know that 61% of children in Manatee County do not have an
age appropriate book at home? Until Dec 31, we will be collecting new
or nearly new children’s books to donate to local school children. Books
must be suitable for children ages 5 to 13. Drop off your books to any
Manatee YMCA branch or YDASH program sites (Braden River, Buffalo
Creek, Haile, Johnson, King, Lee, Nolan Middle Schools).

Manatee YMCA Thrift Shop

The Y Thrift Shop is located in Palmetto, behind the
McDonalds and across from Walmart on 10th St E. All
proceeds from the store are used to support those in
need through programs such as mentoring and leadership,
summer/day camp, safe places before and after school,
services for veterans, and other health and wellness
services for Moms and families. Items can be donated at any
Manatee YMCA branch and include clothing, furniture, toys,
kitchenware, sporting equipment, books, electronics, tools, art, and more! Pick-up and delivery services are available for
large items by calling (941) 212-4652. Receive a 10% discount at the Thrift Shop if you belong to the Y!
