THE 47 CAMP RIDE
NEW Hollister Motorcycle Rally

July 4-7 (Hollister): During the Independence Day weekend, this
inaugural event was going down less than 9 miles from downtown
Hollister in the beautiful setting of Bolado Park. Ok so what is this
run all about? Well I do not want to come across negatively at all
toward the town of Hollister; I have spent a lot of time there and love
the people and the area. Unfortunately, the city council there is just
making it too expensive and difficult to hold an event in town and
that is why the Hollister Rally has come and gone over the years.
Taking the rally into their own hands, some smart local business
owners got together and decided that the best way forward was
to take the rally out of town to avoid some of the challenges that
were unavoidable in town. And this is how the 47 Camp Ride was
created - and in my opinion, this is how it should have been done
all along.

Just a short ride to town – you could find that Johnny’s Bar and
Grill was hopping like usual as in previous rallies. Down the street,
Indian Motorcycles of Hollister had the factory demo truck on site,
so that riders could test ride the latest models and drool over the
beautiful custom paint jobs that roll out of the dealership. And you
can count on Corbin Seats to have self guided factory tours, live
music, food trucks, along with several industry vendors surrounding
the building. Not to mention, Corbin offers custom seat specials

during their annual open house during
the 4th of July weekend. Mike Corbin
also asked Mondo of Denver Choppers
to host the bike show this year and it was
the biggest and best show that I have
seen there yet. The rest of the community
joined in and welcomed this organic effort
as local bars and restaurants along with
other businesses were getting their share of
customers that this small community needs.

The name - ‘47 Camp Ride’ honors the
history behind this great event, “47” was the
year that the now legendary events took
place in Hollister. It was also the inspiration
for the Hollywood movie - The Wild One
starring Marlon Brando and Lee Marvin. It
is also why Hollister is called the Birthplace
of the American Biker. “Camp” comes
from the fact that there are lots of RV spots
available at Bolado Park and what looks
like a never ending supply of areas to pitch
a tent next to your bike. A lot of the areas

TRM NorCal is pleased to show off this sweet Road Glide out of Binford’s Custom Cycles
in Manteca. I am not sure why this bike’s name is ‘Court Ordered’ but it does make the
imagination run amok. Guessing if you really need to know the inspiration of a name like
this one, then you could come by Binford’s Big Ass Bash and Bike Show on September 21st to ask
for yourself and see this beauty in person. What I do know is that Binford’s Custom Cycles has
a style that has been developed and sought after for years. They offer a one of a kind ride with
custom parts and paint that completes its edgy look. So here are some of the things that they did
to this motorcycle to make it stand out with class and it just might inspire you to give Binford’s a
holler to make your dream ride a reality.

The Award and panel discussion at 2019 Quail was
hosted by Master of Ceremonies Paul d’Orleans,
founder of the Vintagent (thevintagent.com.‬ ) Paul
introduced AMA CEO Rob Dingman and Mert Lawwill
(69 AMA Grand Champion and AMA 19x`98 HOF’r) who
presented Malcolm Smith the 2019 Dud Perkins Lifetime
Achievement Award. Malcolm is most notably known for
being featured in the 1971 documentary “On Any Sunday”
with Steve McQueen. Malcolm is the original founder
of “MSR,” a dirt bike product Mfg which he later sold.
Smith’s accomplishments are legendary in motorcycle
racing, including capturing the Baja 1000 in 1971 as well
as his contributions in the development of motorcycle
equipment.

Following the award, and in recognition of International
Female Ride Day, Paul introduced 3 accomplished lady
motorcycling panelists. Ginger Damon, founder of Gigi
Montrose Moto Couture (gigimontrose.com) hosted the
discussion with a short speech about the family aspect
and inner circle culture of motorcycling highlighting the
lifetime of friends it has brought into her life. She then
introduced 11 year old AMA Motorcycle Champion
Kayla Yaakov, who currently has compiled over 185
wins and 25 Championships in her short moto career.
This poised young lady spoke about competing
against “older” racers describing them as 30 year olds-
so old in her eyes! Next Ginger introduced Cristine “Cris”
Sommer-Simmons, an AMA 2003 HOF’r, accomplished
Cannonball finisher, author / co-founder of the “Harley
Women Magazine” and wife of Doobie Brothers Patrick
Simmons, who was there in support of these accomplished
women. Cris spoke of her Cannonball adventures
crossing the country and the camaraderie it created to
accomplish this difficult feat. Cris emphasized how her
participation in Cannonball helped in conquering her fear
of heights while crossing the challenging Rockies. The
ladies all made time after their chats to carry on further
discussions and sign autographs. Cris also offered for
sale and signing her coffee table book “The American
Motorcycle Girls, 1900-1950,” a photographic history
of early women motorcyclists. This book is a definite
consideration for anyone’s motorcycle library.

If vintage motorcycle culture peaks your interests,
start planning for next year’s gathering slated for May
16, 2020 at the Quail Lodge and Golf Club.

The Power of
Babes Ride Out

Provided by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys

If you are a female motorcyclist or know one, good chance
you’ve heard of Babes Ride Out (@babesrideout). It’s a wildly
successful girls only campout created by a couple of friends.
Anya Violet and Ashmore Ellis organized the first campout back
in 2013. Their only goal was to create a way to introduce woman
riders to more like-minded “Babes”. The first event brought together
roughly 50 women and took place down a dusty road, to a beautiful
hidden gem in Borrego Springs. We all knew we technically weren’t
supposed to camp there, but we didn’t care. I say “we” because I
was lucky enough to be part of the very first Babes Ride Out.  I heard
about the event from a long-time friend, and he got me in touch with
Ashmore Ellis. I was so excited for the chance to finally meet other
female riders. At that time, I had been riding a motorcycle for over
7 years and only knew of one other female rider. At the first Babes,
I met women from all over. New York, Portland Oregon, even some
