INVOCATION

by Wim Coleman

Invoca on Nocturne

You So now you wander,
is the mantra of mantras and earth twists wide
the talisman word between us. I turn
my headboard to the north
You at night afraid to move.
is the text of the mass Will you come to this bed
not to be u ered backward looking for me? Sleep
for that is the way of hate strains on its rope.
It gets your scent
You from a piece of clothing
is the space between voices you le two or a thousand
the measure of that space years ago. I turn my sleep
the bridge across free. I send it
searching.
You
is the blade that severs
the needle and thread that mend
the gasp of delight
the ache

as steaming venom fell
to the cold basement floor.
My s ng-tail cannot pain
you, Adaman ne You.
I’d best buzz far away
and share the muted
glimmer that gladdens.
But I strive to splinter
your glass and shrivel
into a black smoking cinder
upon your white-star-filament.
Only madness seeks love.
