2018 Portuguese Junior Masters – February Half-Term

British Junior Golf Tour have teamed up with Million Dollar Club and Castro
Marim Golfe & Country Club for the 2018 season opener!

Kick-start your golf season by joining us for the first of our 2018 events with this superb three-day
tournament at Castro Marim Golf Resort, in stunning eastern Algarve, close to the Spanish border.
It’s a great opportunity for winter training in mild temperatures and fun with your friends during
February half-term.

We will be starting off with an optional parent/junior Texas Scramble nine-hole competition on
Sunday, 11 February, followed by an opening ceremony and welcome drink for everyone in the
evening.
The official practice session, as well as the putting competition will take place on Monday, 12
February, and will be followed by three competition days.
Then we would love everyone to join us for the closing ceremony, which will include prize-giving
and meal, on Thursday evening.

We have been working very hard over the summer to bring you as
many improvements to the BJGT as possible for 2018…

This meant looking at areas both on and off the course, so we have been working with various
partners who we feel can add benefits to Tour players.

The first new aspect of 2018 will see the introduction of BJGT Membership, we believe the feeling of
being part of the biggest and best junior golf tour in the country is very important.
The various packages and their benefits will be posted next month along with the preliminary 2018
BJGT Schedule.

The first element of each package (and we found out through personal experience just how
important this is!) is golf insurance.

This does not only cover players against accidents and injuries on the course, but also offers
protection from theft of golf clubs off the course, travel claims and much more!

How many of us have had clubs stolen - we have experienced this first hand and heard about
multiple other cases this year of clubs being taken.

Car and house insurance often don’t cover this type of theft and, even if you have items individually
included, on many occasions this doesn’t cover what your clubs are actually worth or would cost to
replace.

We firmly believe that not only should everyone playing golf have insurance, but this is likely to
become mandatory in the future.

Each of our membership packages will feature different levels of golf insurance for your junior, this
will provide peace of mind for you while they are out playing.

We are also offering substantial discounts on adult insurance taken out at the same time so that
parents can also enjoy the same levels of cover.

We have teamed up with Million Dollar Club for 2018 to bring you this insurance deal and the
partnership will also bring other perks.

BJGT membership will include an adult membership of the Million Dollar Club.

We appreciate that the juniors may not fully understand or appreciate the benefits of the above
elements, so for them we have a very exciting addition: we are introducing a season-long ‘Hole
In One’ competition that will only be open to BJGT members!

A hole will be selected at each event and should your junior get a hole in one they will win a
family holiday to Portugal!

As a BJGT member, they will also appear on our Order or Merit and be in the running to win some
fantastic prizes.
Members will receive substantial event entry discounts, as well as reductions in the BJGT Shop.

BJGT Juniors flying the flag for United Kingdom at World Championships

The trip to the Ciputra World Junior Golf Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia, is a truly amazing
experience!
It is obviously a long way, taking around 24hrs to get there, but it’s well worth it, for the welcome
you receive, tournament organisation and level of competition.
Accommodation, transfers, entry and a caddy are all included for players on their qualification to
the BJGT team.
Parents are not required to travel, as a Team Manager accompanies the players to look after and
chaperone them, but may do so at their own expense.
One boy and one girl from each 13-14 and 15-17 division (4 players) will make up the team, all
travelling together, which makes for a real team atmosphere.
Staying together at the Hotel Ciputra and playing the PIK Course at Damaii Indah Golf, the facilities
are superb, plus uniquely, all players are allocated a local caddy to assist them for the week, which
only adds to the experience.
We are the only junior tour with qualifying rights to this event and believe it to be hugely beneficial
to a player’s experience and development.

The British Junior Golf Tour took a team of 14 players out to San Diego to
compete in the 2017 IMG Academy Junior World Championships

Over 1200 players from all over the world take part each year, making it the largest junior golf event
in the world. This year, the tournament celebrated its 50th anniversary.

It is a truly fantastic experience for all junior golfers!

They learn so much from the travel and staying in a hotel, to the climate and different grass, not to
mention an international field and playing on beautiful courses.
The various age groups play at different venues and courses across San Diego, with suitable
yardages for each Division.

For example, the 6 & Under players are at Colina Park, a stunning Par 3 course, measuring around
1300 yds for 18 holes, while the Boys 15-18 age group play the South Course at Torrey Pines,
made famous by Tiger Woods, who won the 2008 US Open here, measuring a daunting 7300 yds.
Played over 54 holes, or 72 for the oldest age group, the Junior World Championship is a great test
of all aspects of a player’s game, requiring both mental and physical strength sustained over 3 or 4
days.

The team performed fantastically this year, with Jaxson Perry bringing home a 4th place trophy in
the Boys 7-8 division. There were Top 10 finishes for Charlie Ward (age 10, 8th place) and Adam
Khan (age 6, 7th place), while Sunny Wang finished just outside the Top 10. Mark Haghani and
Tiger Adams both produced some fine golf at Torrey Pines, with their best rounds being 73 and 74,
respectively, although not quite good enough to make the cut after 54 holes.
We would thoroughly recommend the event to all junior golfers who want to test themselves at the
highest level!
As a special ‘thank you’, all players who represented BJGT this year get an invite to play in the
Grand Final Qualifier for the 2018 IMG Academy Junior World Championships, which will be held at
Park Hill GC on Sunday, 8 October 2017.

We were delighted to be the only official Junior
Qualifier for the 2017 Farmfoods British Par 3

Championship.

Jacob Jones was the lucky winner of our qualifier and earned his place in the British Par 3 Pro-Am
at Nailcote Hall. Jacob got to play in a 4 ball alongside Mark Mouland, Tony Jacklin CBE and Eric
Herd, and we were lucky enough to have a stand in the tented village, to promote junior golf.

British Junior Golf Tour will once again be holding the 2018 Par 3 Qualifier, in July 2018.
