MISSED APPOINTMENTS
Thank you, there was a slight reduction for GPs but nurses are still
unacceptably high so, please ensure our resources are always used
appropriately. Last month 27 patients did not attend their doctor’s
appointment whilst 38 did not attend their nurse’s appointment, so
that’s still 65 patients wasting valuable appointments and time. With
an average cost of £160 per appointment that’s another £10,400 of
NHS funds wasted. Please, if you don’t need it, cancel it, keep
forgetting? Use our text reminder service.

OPEN GARDENS 15TH-16TH JUNE, 2019

“Minster - What a lovely place to live!” - one of the many compliments heard.

Thank you to everyone who gave such a warm welcome to all the visitors who came to Minster on Open Gardens’

weekend. 19 gardens opened their gates and generously allowed the public in. Their hard work and creativity did

not go unnoticed and their enthusiasm and energy over the weekend was amazing. Thank you to those who took

beautiful photos and to Minster Matters for publishing them last month.

The final total the gardeners raised was an amazing £5600 towards the maintenance of our Parish Church. This

will enable us to apply for grants to carry out expensive repair work to the building. Our thanks also go to the Royal

British Legion, the Corner House, the Hair of the Dog, Jemima’s and Attwells for their contribution; and to Monkton

Nature Reserve and All Saints Church Birchington for allowing us to display banners. High quality Ploughmans

Lunches were on sale due to supplies from AJ Cliffe’s and Green’s in the village and a wonderful salad donation

from Thanet Earth. The WI offered refreshments, alongside a beautiful car collection; Minster honey was on sale,

along with a huge variety of plants and cuttings; and the Art Group displayed their work. The Twinning Association

helped a French party set up a photographic display and introduced them to the gardens. And children were

particularly thrilled by a greenhouse full of exotic butterflies and the excitement of discovering new potatoes under

the soil!

A wonderful village event.

On behalf of St. Mary’s Church we would like to thank everybody who supported Open Gardens this year and

helped us maintain one of the focal points of our village, but especially the gardeners, without whom this event

would not exist!

THANK YOU!

Pat Hogben
