One of our recent LKM Industrial Services jobs was for The O2 Arena, London.
“LKM Recycling carried out an amazing job dismantling and taking away our old seating
units, steel frames and seats from the O2 Arena.
The team had attended the site a couple of times to work out the logistics of the task and
understand the time limitations we had to work with. They worked professionally, efficiently
and adhered to all of our health and safety policies.
They co-operated with our staff extremely well and were prepared to go the extra mile to
complete the job in the time agreed.
I was impressed with the service that we received and I would definitely work with the
company again and would definitely recommend LKM Recycling.”
– Emma Beszant, Senior Technical Manager at The O2 Arena.

Ferrous market update

A collection of powerful forces has put increasing
pressure on steelworks. Demand for the metal in the
UK has never recovered since the financial crisis,
remaining 30% lower than pre-2008 levels, while
energy costs, business rates, and environmental
taxes have further squeezed the industry. However,
Tata and other steelmakers argue that the biggest
problem is China dumping steel into Europe. The
majority of Chinese steelmakers are state-owned
and are estimated to have lost billions of dollars
in 2015 as domestic demand slowed. In response,
the Chinese steelmakers are trying to increase the
amount of steel they export. Steel exports from
China to Europe have more than doubled since
2013, helping to send the price of the metal down
to roughly half 2011 levels.

Under the industry’s circumstances, LKM
Recycling has been able to grow leaps and bounds
due to our export facilities, to get our materials
around the globe and not have to rely on the UK’s
steel industry.

INJURED VETERANS GIVEN RIDE
OF THEIR LIVES

In August, 80 injured veterans and recovering service personnel got to experience the thrill
of being driven around the world-famous Brands Hatch track in an array of high performance
racing and road cars. Gary Eastwood, Owner of LKM Recycling, drove some of the service
men and women around the track in his LKM Ferrari 458 GT3 Italia.
Tony Hughes, Managing Director of LKM Recycling, got the pleasure of meeting
John Ray, an Ex-Military double amputee. At the age of 22, John was involved in a horrific
explosion when completing Med Man training in Canada to prepare himself for war. When
digging a trench to give them cover from the enemy, an old shell exploded and covered John
with shrapnel, which caused him to lose his leg and other life threatening injuries. This
hasn’t stopped John living life to the full though, he now volunteers for the Not Forgotten
Association, a tri-service charity, which provides entertainment and recreation for the benefit
of the serving wounded, injured or sick and for veterans who suffer from a disability or illness.
Some of the activities include scuba diving, canoeing and Royal Parties, which all help the
individuals on their pathway to recovery.

FUNDRAISING GOLFERS GO A FAIR WAY
TO HELP CANCER CHARITY

Four friends completed four rounds of golf back-to-back
in just 13 hours, raising more than £1300 for Macmillan
Cancer Support. Ryan Eastwood (Commercial Director
of LKM Recycling), Paul Steenson, Barry Moody and
Daryl Miller took on the Longest Day Golf Challenge
at Faversham Golf Club in July. Wearing the loudest
shorts they could find, they teed off at 4.20am and were
back in the clubhouse by 5.45pm, very proud of their
achievement.

to our site in Sittingbourne.

One of these improvements included the
concreting of the yard. This was partly in
preparation for the new shredder installation,
as well as making the site cleaner and safer.

LKM Recycling to install Untha’s
largest four shaft shredder

Untha rs150

To further continue the growth of the
company, LKM Recycling have invested in a
RS150 shredder from Untha, which will be
the first of its kind in the UK. This enables
us to offer Certified Complete Destruction

be destroyed beyond recognition, to prevent
resale.

We can process various complex and heavy
duty materials including:

• Plastic The 22 tonne machine will be able to
• Mixed Metals achieve throughputs of up to 12 tonnes
• Fabric per hour, which is predicted to increase the
• Tyres annual volume of recycling by 25%. With it’s
• Wood changeable screens, the shredder will be able
• Secure shredding to achieve different sized results from as
small as 30mm, depending on the customers
requirements.

“The high torque, slow speed eco-drive Commenting on the investment, Managing
concept within this machine will also keep Director of LKM Recycling, Tony Hughes
power consumption low, which minimises said: “This is our first UNTHA machine – in
our carbon footprint and saves on energy fact it is the first processing machine we’ve
costs. You wouldn’t expect these efficiencies ever bought. It will completely revolutionise
within such a heavy duty machine of this our approach to recycling because we’ll
size. soon be able to liberate all of the materials
from the streams we process. By shredding
and screening uPVC windows, for instance,
we’ll be able to separate the ‘waste’ into
its component parts with ease. This means
more material going back into the industry

We’re in the final stages of creating a
sophisticated new low-noise operation that
will really set us apart from competitors of
our size.””

Not only will the shredder make a positive
impact on the business, it is going to
create more job opportunities for the local
community.
