BACHELOR OF ARTS: BEHAVIOURAL SCIENCES

The Behavioural Sciences program provides you with a unique focus that combines
sociology (the study of social behaviour), psychology (the study of mind and behaviour)
and a general foundation in the social sciences. Studying sociology will help you develop
a perspective sensitive to the social forces that shape you and your world. You'll see
education, politics, economics, religion, culture and Canadian society in new ways.
The study of psychology will enable you to appreciate individual differences and how
people’s behaviour is shaped by biology and culture. You will wrestle with the nature of
the mind, intelligence, consciousness, memory and personal identity.

This degree will open doors to careers in areas such as urban studies, criminal justice,
research, community development, advocacy, environmental issues, counselling,
missions and ministry.

BACHELOR OF ARTS: ENGLISH & FILM STUDIES

The English & Film Studies degree is an interdisciplinary program which will unite
your passion for film and theatre with your love for reading, writing and language.
Naturally, you will devote a lot of time to reading texts and viewing films and discussing
their meaning and importance. Your interest in culture and creativity will be brought
to new levels as you explore a wide range of texts in their cultural and historical
context, from Shakespeare to science fiction and contemporary Hollywood to
cutting-edge TV.

BACHELOR OF ARTS: GENERAL STUDIES

Are you exploring what career path to take? Are your interests so varied that you’d like to keep
your options open? Choose General Studies, and you’ll be selecting a flexible program where
you can create an individualized plan of study in multiple areas of interest. You’ll have the
freedom to explore courses beyond the core curriculum, focusing in subjects which interest you
the most. The General Studies program allows you to develop a personalized, multi-disciplinary
course of study that specifically matches your needs, educational path and career goals.

With a General Studies degree, you can pursue a career in numerous fields, including entry
level positions in social services, public relations, government, retail management, business
or event planning. You can also use it as a foundation for pursuing an after-degree in
education, law and other programs that are open to graduates with a three-year degree.

BACHELOR OF ARTS: PSYCHOLOGY

Psychology is the study of the mind and behaviour. It is the study of people: how they think, react,
and interact. Studying psychology will help you understand yourself and others. You’ll develop
critical thinking and sound analytical skills, effective communication, interpersonal active-listening
and intercultural communication skills and self-understanding. If you are naturally curious and
constantly in search of knowledge, psychology would be a natural fit. One of the most popular
undergraduate options, psychology is an interesting, exciting and challenging major.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH MY DEGREE?

With a psychology degree, you can pursue a career in areas such as labour relations, social services,
health services, mental health, personnel, corrections and so much more. If interested in psychology
as a career (including research careers, such as a university professor or as a practicing psychologist),
this undergraduate degree is a required stepping stone to graduate-level studies. A degree in
psychology also provides excellent preparation for those interested in professional programs such
as social work, education or law.

BACHELOR OF ARTS: Religion

Religion has been and continues to be a major influence in the world. It affects every aspect of the
human experience: history, culture, politics, economics, science, philosophy and more. An adequate
understanding of the world requires some knowledge of its various faith traditions. What do people
believe and what do they practice in diverse religious communities around the globe? How does
religion inform and shape their lives? What does religion contribute to their societies? How does it
provide life with meaning, wisdom, ethical responsibility and beauty? Studying religion enables
us to ask, think about and answer these kinds of complex and important questions.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH MY DEGREE?

Numerous career paths are open to graduates with a Religion degree including church ministry,
social services, management, administration and politics. This degree can also be used as a
stepping stone to pursue further studies in professional fields such as law, medicine, teaching
or journalism.

BACHELOR OF SOCIAL WORK

The Bachelor of Social Work program prepares students to facilitate change in individuals, families, groups,
organizations and communities. Social workers seek to improve quality of life and well-being, advocate for
principles of social justice and equality for the oppressed and vulnerable, work to remove structural
disadvantage and create opportunities for people to develop their skills and resources to reach their
own goals. This program is available in a four-year degree program and a two-year after degree program,
with a strong emphasis on clinical skills courses. Students typically gain more than 800 hours of practical
field experience and benefit from the unique way we match our students to their placement sites.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH MY DEGREE?

This degree opens numerous doors to careers in areas such as advocacy, counselling, facilitation, mediation,
administration and policy analysis. You can also work in a variety of settings including schools, hospitals,
rehabilitation programs, child welfare settings, family services agencies, treatment centres and criminal
justice settings. Social workers also work with people affected by issues like addictions, mental health
concerns, disabilities, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, violence, trauma, health issues or crime.

STUDENT
PRACTICUMS

Booth UC students have many opportunities
to participate in student practicums.

Our Social Work and Psychology programs offer students the opportunity
for student placement during the academic year. This placement allows
students to become familiar with their field of study and incorporate
practical field experience preparing them for their future roles.

The Urban Service Learning (USL) course combines academic study,
community engagement and critical reflection. This core requirement for
all Booth UC students gives them the chance to gain skills and volunteer
experiences, which educate their heart, while building their resumé and
helping those most in need.

The unique USL curriculum explores social issues such as homelessness,
exploitation, poverty, inequality and other forms of injustice. Expanding
beyond the classroom into the heart of Winnipeg, students study and
reflect together on the root causes of injustice while gaining valuable
work/volunteer experience.

who has demonstrated a commitment to social entrepreneurship and applying
business knowledge to building a better world.

This scholarship is for a transfer student who has demonstrated socially
conscious leadership in their community.

PRESIDENT’S ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP: (1-YEAR TUITION)

The President invites you to apply for this scholarship which recognizes a high
school student, who demonstrates academic excellence, and who portrays
consistent and outstanding dedication to "Education for a Better World."

ACADEMIC ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS: $2,000

These scholarships are automatically granted based on students meeting the criteria.

This scholarship is for a Mature Student who has demonstrated a commitment
to lifelong learning with socially conscious leadership in their community.

THE RESIDENCE LEADERSHIP
AND ENGAGEMENT AWARD: $1,000

This award is for a student, newly admitted to Booth University College and Booth
University College Residence, who demonstrates leadership and commitment to
community engagement through volunteerism and social entrepreneurship. This
award is renewable for one additional year at 50%, pending successful reapplication.

COMMUNITY IMPACT AWARD
$250/3 CREDIT HOUR CLASS ENROLLED

This award is for new Booth University College degree students who are active
contributors in community engagement, committed to seeking hope, justice and
mercy for all.

THE MAJOR AND MRS FESTUS UKO ABARA
SCHOLARSHIP: $4,000

This Scholarship was first offered in 1993 and is intended to provide financial
assistance up to $4,000 CDN, toward tuition and books, for Salvationist
students from African Salvation Army Territories who wish to study at Booth
University College as full-time students.

FUTURE LEADER SCHOLARSHIP: BOOTH BOUND

Qualified North American Salvationist students can come visit our campus on
scholarship. Applications due by September with offers made in September.
Booth Bound is held yearly in October.
