Course Description:

Using web design as the platform for product design and presentation, students will create and learn digital media
applications using elements of text, graphics, animation, sound, video and digital imaging for various format. The digital media
and interactive media projects developed and published showcase the student skills and ability. Emphasis will be placed on
effective use of tools for interactive multimedia production including storyboarding, visual development, project management,
digital citizenship, and web processes. Students will create and design web sites that incorporate digital media elements to
enhance content of web site.

Various forms of technologies will be used to expose students to resources, software, and applications of media. Professional
communication skills and practices, problem-solving, ethical and legal issues, and the impact of effective presentation skills
are enhanced in this course to prepare students to be college and career ready. Employability skills are integrated into
activities, tasks, and projects throughout the course standards to demonstrate the skills required by business and industry.
Competencies in the co-curricular student organization, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), are integral components
of the employability skills standard for this course.

Digital Design is the second course in the Web and Digital Design pathway in the Information Technology cluster. Students
enrolled in this course should have successfully completed Introduction to Digital Technology and Fundamentals.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS/OBJECTIVES:
The Georgia Department of Education Performance Standards in the following areas are available online at
http://www.georgiastandards.org

Anticipated Classroom Format:
Teacher demonstration, power-point presentations, displays on overhead projector, hands-on assignments, worksheets, written reports and
oral presentations.

Required Readings:
This course requires numerous reading sources including: Text books, handouts, articles and curriculum information provided by the
instructor.

Assessment/Evaluations/Required Student Products:
Student evaluations will be completed using a variety of formats including written examinations, oral presentations, inspection of electronic
files, and printed copies of completed work.

 Projects will be both group and individual.
 Students absent during a group project may be given an alternate assignment.
 All homework is due at the beginning of the class period. In class assignments are due at the end of the class period unless other

directions are given.
 If the student is absent on the day of a test/quiz, the student will be expected to take the test/quiz on the day of their return.
 Tests/CDAs will be announced in advance; quizzes may or may not be announced in advance.
 Late work: WILL NOT be accepted without a valid excuse note.
Make-Up Work:
If you are absent please check schoology.com for your missing assignments.

Please keep in mind I will not pursue the student for missed and/or late assignments or class notes. It is the student’s responsibility to check
the assignment calendar, check with a fellow classmate, or check with me outside of class hours to find out what was missed.

Academic Honesty:

Students are expected to achieve and maintain the highest standards of academic honesty and excellence. Not only does academic honesty
preserve the integrity of both the student and the school, but it is also essential in gaining a true education. Students pledge that they will not
lie, cheat, plagiarize, or steal in the pursuit of his or her studies and are encouraged to report those who do. Students also pledge not to allow
others to copy their work. Failure to demonstrate academic honesty may result in a zero for all parties involved.

Grading Plan: 50%
30%
Grading will occur on a variety of assignments, including: 20%
Summative Grades (CDAs, Tests, Projects, Etc.)
Formative Grades (class assignments, quizzes, homework)
Final Exam

It is the student’s responsibility to keep track of their grades. If the student has a concern about their grade, they must make an appointment
to meet with me to discuss outside of class (i.e. before or after school).

PLEASE DO NOT ASK ME ABOUT YOUR GRADE DURING CLASS TIME.

Some work completed is informal in nature or practice and may not require grading. Work being graded will be graded using the following

grading scale:

A = 90 – 100 D = 70

B = 80 – 89 F = Below 70

C = 71 – 79

Classroom Rules:

1. Do not do ANYTHING that would detract from the learning environment. This is a LEARNING environment first and foremost.
Follow this one simple rule and you will learn a lot and enjoy the class. There is zero tolerance for any action(s) that would
diminish the chances for learning to take place for yourself or your peers.

2. Follow the 5 Chapel Hill House Rules. (strictly enforced at all times)

3. Be prepared!! Bring your materials with you as well as any assignments that are due. You will NOT be allowed to leave to
retrieve forgotten materials under any circumstances!

4. Be RESPECTFUL of the teacher, other students, and yourself.

5. Follow the rules set forth in the student handbook.

The choices you make will result in either a negative or positive consequence.

Internet Usage Policy:
Computers are to be used as a learning aide not entertainment. If you are using a computer inappropriately, or you are on a website that is
not directly related to the assignment/project, you will receive appropriate disciplinary action and your log in ID could be disabled.

Lost Book Policy:

The student will be charged full replacement cost for any textbook lost, regardless of condition. The amount to be charged for a textbook
damaged by a student will be the responsibility of the principal.

Articulation Information:
The Douglas County School System has an articulation agreement with West Central Technical College in regard to some business and
information classes. Interested students can check with their guidance counselor for more information.
