Office Hours and Locations

Our office is open from 7:30 am-12:00 pm and 1:00 pm-4:30 pm, Monday– Thursday.

We are at our south office, located near 56th and Pine Lake Road, most Mondays, Wednes-
days, and Thursdays.

We are at our north office, located near 27th and Superior Street, most Tuesdays.

On occasion, there are instances when we are out of the office for longer than a weekend. Dur-
ing this time, we will periodically check the messages left and return any necessary phone
calls. If we are out of the office and you would like to leave a message, please do so in our
general mailbox. It may not be the same day, but a team member will return your call. If you
have an orthodontic emergency (see page 7), please leave a message in the emergency
mailbox. An emergency on-call team member will promptly return your call to assist you.

You can contact us by phone at 402-421-8000 for either office, any time of day, or by email at
[email protected].

During the winter season, please refer to our website for closings.

We highly value the health and consideration of our patients. Our practice uses the same
guideline that the schools use when it comes to whether or not a patient should attend his/
her appointment. We ask that if you have been sick (ex. fever, sore throat, vomiting, and/or
diarrhea) within the past 24 hours of your scheduled appointment to call our office and re-
schedule to a later day. If signs of a cold or flu are exhibited upon arrival to our office we may
ask you to reschedule your appointment.

Invisalign and Care

Wear trays all day and all night for two weeks. Take them out only for brushing, eating, or
drinking.

Taking trays in and out of your mouth can be tricky. When taking them out, be sure to start in
the back. With your fingernail, grab the ledge of the tray and wiggle it up and down.

Be sure to rinse your Invisalign tray each time you take it in and out, and to brush them at
least once a day. This will help keep plaque deposits from building up in your Invisalign
trays.

Do not eat or drink with your trays in. It is only ok to drink water with your trays in.

Keep your trays in retainer cases as they can get lost or broken. You will be provided two
cases. One case should be designated for the trays that you are currently wearing. The oth-
er case should store your previously worn trays for back-up.

If a tray becomes lost or damaged, contact our office promptly to re-order the tray(s), howev-
er this is not an emergency. Because it can take up to 2 weeks for invisalign to send us the
replacement trays, we ask that you wear your previously worn tray(s) to prevent any unde-
sirable tooth movement. *If an Invisalign tray is lost there will be a $100.00 charge to replace each

lost tray.

Attachments tend to break off easily due to the numerous times your trays may come in and
out of the mouth. If an attachment should come off, please contact our office to add extra
time to your next scheduled appointment; this is not an emergency. Continue wearing the
tray that you are currently in and do not switch trays until the lost attachment is replaced.

Never move forward with your trays sooner than one week! It is always better to wear them a
little longer than one week if needed.

When one week is up and you are ready to change trays, it is best to do so in the evening so
you can sleep through any minor aches or pains.

Take Tylenol or other pain medication every 4-6 hours as needed.

Clinpro

Clinpro is a prescription-strength fluoride toothpaste containing tri-calcium phosphate. Daily
use of Clinpro will help to build an acid-resistant barrier to protect teeth against deminerali-
zation. It has also been proven to rebuild the enamel that has been demineralized.

Because it can be more difficult for orthodontic patients to keep his/her teeth clean, we recom-
mend incorporating Clinpro to help guard against demineralization. Demineralization occurs
when plaque sits on an area of a tooth for a long period of time (longer than 24 hours). Vis-
ual scarring on the tooth surface can occur as a result, along with increased sensitivity.

Braces do not cause tooth-scarring. As long as you brush and floss your teeth as instructed
while in braces, you will not have tooth scarring. This means thorough brushing twice a day
and after every meal and flossing daily. If there is any concern regarding the execution of
this regiment, clinpro is highly recommended.

Clinpro is safe to use daily for adults and children 6 years an older.

Already have braces or just had your braces removed and are noticing some scarring?
Clinpro is the only fluoride toothpaste clinically proven to diminish the appearance of tooth
scars thanks to an innovative tri-calcium phosphate ingredient.

Are your teeth temperature sensitive? Clinpro will also help with tooth sensitivity.

Directions:
Use once a day in place of regular toothpaste.
Apply a pea-sized amount to a dry toothbrush and brush all areas of the teeth for 2
minutes.
After brushing, adults should spit out any excess paste. Children ages 6-16 should
also rinse mouth thoroughly with water.
* For best results, apply at bedtime.

One tube of Clinpro should last for 6 months and can be purchased at our office in spearmint,
bubblegum, or vanilla mint flavors.

Wearing Elastics

Elastic wear is a very common aspect of treatment, though it may not be a part of yours. Pa-
tients typically begin wearing elastics towards the middle of his/her treatment when the final
wires are placed. Just as there is an ideal position for your teeth, there is also an ideal posi-
tion for your bite. Teeth that lock together evenly when biting promote a healthy jaw joint
that will decrease the onset of chronic pain in the future. Good elastic wear along with brac-
es will help to accomplish this.

Elastic compliance is directly correlated to treatment time. If you are instructed to wear elas-
tics as part of your treatment, the more you choose to wear your elastics, the sooner your
braces will come off. It’s in your hands!

Elastics should be worn 24 hours a day, 7 days a week-All the time! (unless you are told dif-
ferently). Remove them only to brush your teeth or to eat. After brushing or eating, immedi-
ately put in new elastics.

Change your elastics 3-4 times a day, as they gradually lose their strength with wear.

Call if you forget how to hook them up. We can also email or text you a diagram that will
show you where to hook them up on your braces.

If you ever run out of elastics feel free to stop by the office and pick up more.

Your teeth and jaw may be tender for the first few days. This is normal and should begin to
disappear within a week. If soreness persists and/or jaw popping begins, please call our
office to discuss.

You will be asked to grade yourself on your elastic wear at every adjustment appointment: A
(21 hours, if instructed to wear them all the time), B (15 hours, if instructed to wear them all
the time), C (8 hours or less, if instructed to wear them all the time) F (hardly at all). It’s im-
portant that you be honest with us when grading yourself, we won’t be mad! We need an
accurate judgment on the frequency of elastic wear for diagnostic purposes.

Mouth Sores

Mouth sores can be an unfavorable effect of wearing Invisalign trays. Mouth sores typically
occur when a tray is frequently rubbing your oral tissue in a certain spot.

Warm salt water rinses once a day can be done to help speed up the healing process of
mouth sores. Use about 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1 cup of warm water as needed.

If you are prone to getting frequent canker sores, braces can exacerbate the condition. We
suggest contacting either us or your general dentist for a prescription to treat the canker
sores when you first notice one coming.

For the occasional canker sore, over the counter remedies found at most pharmacies such as
Zilactin and Colgate Orabase are recommended.

It is important to maintain good oral hygiene especially if mouth sores are present. Gently
brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush to keep the oral cavity healthy and free from infection.

Emergencies

We consider a situation to be an orthodontic emergency if it restricts the patient from opening
or closing his/her mouth due to a component of his/her braces gouging the tissue.

If this should happen outside of our business hours, please call our normal office number
(402-421-8000) and press 9. This will take you to our emergency mailbox. Here you can
leave a message with your contact information and an on-call team member will call you
back promptly to troubleshoot.

If you have received a forceful blow to the face and your braces have been damaged along
with injury to the mouth, it may be necessary to visit an emergency hospital. In this instance
your body takes importance over your braces. Please seek immediate medical help and we
will repair your braces after you have healed.

A broken invisalign tray or unglued attachment is NOT considered an emergency. It is very
unlikely that an emergency should occur in association with wearing invisalign trays. How-
ever, If you would like to notify our office of a non-emergency issue outside of our normal
business hours, you can dial our office number and leave a message in our general mail-
box. Otherwise, please call our office on the next business day to notify us of the issue.

Retainers

Retainers are given to you after your braces or appliance are removed and will need to be
worn for as long as you want your teeth to stay straight.

Fixed Wire Retainer - Long-Term
This permanent wire is glued to the back-side of the front top and bottom teeth after braces
are removed to hold the teeth in position, and cannot be visible from the front.

Keep them clean by regular brushing with special attention to the back sides of the front teeth
where the wire is glued. You are able to floss normally on the top. However, flossing the lower
retainer requires the same threader floss used with braces.

Hawley Retainer - Long-Term
This removable retainer is worn long-term either along with a fixed wire retainer, or alone to
hold the teeth and/or palate in position.

This retainer should be worn every night and stored in the case provided when not being
worn to prevent damage.

Be careful to never pull on the wires of this retainer, as this can bend the wires and cause it
not to fit properly. Only use the plastic portion to place in and remove from the mouth.

Trutain - Temporary
This clear tray looks similar to Invisalign and can be used for minimal tooth movement and/ or
can temporarily hold the teeth in position while a more permanent retainer is being made.

If this retainer is being worn to move teeth, it should be worn 24/7 except for eating and
brushing. If this retainer is being worn to hold teeth, it should be worn every night.

Always keep your trutain as you can use this for a back-up if anything should happen to your
more long-term (ie hawley or fixed wire).

Keep your removable retainers clean by brushing them with a toothbrush and toothpaste.

Please always bring every form of retainer that you have been currently prescribed to wear to
every orthodontic appointment following it’s delivery.

If your retainer is ever broken, lost, becomes unglued, or doesn't fit well please notify our of-
fice promptly to schedule an appointment, however this is not an emergency. The cost to
replace or repair a retainer can vary from $30-$185.

For Comprehensive Treatment: We will monitor your retention for two years after your braces
come off or until age 18, whichever is longer.

For Phase 1 Treatment: We will monitor you until you are ready for phase 2 treatment (if indi-
cated) or until you are 18 years of age, whichever is longer.

To help preserve your beautiful smile, we offer two types of retainer insurance. For addition-
al information, or to purchase, please ask a team member.
