Her Twinkling Eyes
Did you ever imagined what would you do if you have to live in an isolated place where there is no
telephone network, no proper transportation system except bullock carts or cycle and absence of
electricity ?
It seems impossible for us to live without the well-developed transport and communication systems
even if it is just for a day or two.
I have to travel 13.5 KM everyday by train from Belghoria to Bidhannagar Road to attend my school
at Saltlake. One day in the train a young mother, nearly 25 years old was standing beside me with her
daughter, approx. 8 years old. At a glance it could be clearly understood that they belonged to one of
the backward regions of our country. Before entering Dumdum Station I could see a Metro train moving
at a high speed. The little girl told her mom, “Maa, see that train is so fast and different from ours.”
She was very excited about her recent discovery. Her eyes twinkled like the shining stars. She again
questioned her mother, “What is that and why it’s different from this train?”Her mother was speechless
because she had no answer to satisfy the curiosity of her daughter as she was also an aware of it. The
silence was broken by a daily passenger. She answered, “It is Metro Rail and it travels under the earth’s
surface.” She listened carefully and in a childish manner asked if any person stayed there. The lady
replied that it helps people to travel from one place to another and it is not a place to stay. Her big
black eyes sparkled more after knowing the details about that mystifying running object. Maybe she
tried to build a bridge between the definition and the moving metal boxes. She stared at the metro train
with the same glaze in her eyes till it disappeared.

THE WONDERFUL LIFE
Something struck out from my little heart’s core,
That what’s behind the glimpse sight of the nightly shore?
I have many questions roaming all around,
But the solution is nowhere to be found.
The space and time converges into singularity,
But what’s the mystery of the nature’s regularity?
It is a wish, it is a dream
To churn out the secret and segregate the cream.
The cosmos is large and shines bright,
Expanding all the way to the end of our sight.
Our life is grey, it is quite small,
We are born and will die in the limitations of the earthly hall.
What to do, what to seek?
As the confidential message of the GOD
is never going to leak.
But we need to remember and remember it forever,
That something is in front of us which can be in our favour.
And that is the knowledge we still need to explore,
The building stretches to infinity but we are only in the first floor.
End will never come as it is never made,
It is not me, it is the GOD only who had thus said.

MEND YOUR ENGLISH
Language is always changing, evolving and adapting to the needs of its users. English, like
any other language, is much alive and growing. Generation after generation, words change
their meanings, or new words and phrases add into the family (such as “Snackable” ,
“smileys” or “Hangry”).You will be surprised to know that some words which get adapted
were nothing but a mistake which gradually got accepted as correct. To name a
few :despatch, originally spelt as dispatch ,nickname originally called eke names, Syllabus

Keeping a pace with these changing trends becomes more difficult for the learners of
English. The key is to be aware of accepted usage and common mistakes.
The following tips will help you stay on track:
o Be choosy on the internet: English is the common language of the web. There are
innumerable conversations among non-native English speakers of all levels, and
misused words are not rare. You can find everything on the internet, from misspelled
words to poor grammar construction to out-of-place idioms. In addition to this internet
is one platform where anyone can post their ideas, with the fact that there is no check,
the quality of writing across the internet varies a great deal. Mere existence does not
qualify a thing as correct. Always be critical when you read and converse in online
forums.
o Keep a good dictionary handy. When in doubt, look up words in a decent dictionary.
A reference book from a publisher such as Oxford, Cambridge, Macmillan or
Merriam-Webster acts like a saviour when you find yourself getting stuck.
o Check on the new dictionary apps like English Dictionary – Offline, Oxford
Dictionary of English, Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Collins English Dictionary
Unabridged etc.
o Learn from an authentic source. Mark the usage of words used in high-quality books,
essays ,journals and articles. For news and reports, one can rely on our tried and trusted

o There are publications with dedicated editors that you can rely on for formal and

I still remember those lazy afternoons during our winter vacation when we used to snuggle inside the blanket
