Bayshore Medical Center officially rebrands
to “HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast”

Bayshore Medical Center is officially “HCA
Houston Healthcare Southeast.” One of
Pasadena’s first hospitals celebrated its
rebranding earlier this month with an outdoor
“sign unveiling” event for staff, physicians,
and the community. Jeanna Bamburg,
CEO, and Nelda Sullivan, who serves on the
boards of the hospital and of the Pasadena
Independent School District, spoke at the
event. Mrs. Sullivan, who was present when
Bayshore Medical Center first opened its doors in 1962, shed light on the positive changes she has seen at the
hospital and in the broader Pasadena community over the past many years. Mrs. Bamburg discussed HCA
Houston Healthcare Southeast’s position in the broader HCA Houston Healthcare network, as well as recent
milestones for the hospital. Highlights include: the delivery of the hospital’s first set of triplets last month; the
launch of its third midwife clinic, in February; and the expansion of its freestanding emergency department on
Fairmont, which is set to triple in size this year. After remarks, attendees – including Pasadena Mayor Jeff Wagner
– applauded as the HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast team unveiled its new logo on a monument sign outside
of the hospital.

Business Enhancement Program

Pasadena EDC Announces New Business Enhancement Program
Pasadena Economic Development Corporation [PEDC] is pleased to announce the launch of the Business Enhancement
Program, a matching grant program to support local small business development and city revitalization.
The Business Enhancement Program is an initiative available to eligible businesses to apply for funds to complete
enhancement and improvement projects that improve the appearance and functionality of their exterior. Matching
grant funds may be provided for 50% of the cost of construction and architectural fees, up to $20,000 per project for
construction and architectural fees combined.
The EDC’s Business Enhancement Program is well-timed to leverage the major public investment along Richey Street
and Pasadena Boulevard; and spur additional investment in several other areas slated for revitalization efforts.
The program is also a straightforward development tool that serves to improve economic vitality and marketability of
a building or new business – we are looking forward to funding highly visible and impactful buildings and are thrilled to
offer a program that will incentivize small businesses.
When a business enhances their building’s façade, it not only signals positive change and pride, but it contributes to the
overall improvement of Pasadena’s business districts.
To obtain a copy of the Grant Guidelines and the Application visit the website at http://bit.ly/BEProgram or contact the
office 713.920.7957.
Pasadena EDC is a Type B Economic Development Corporation established by the City of Pasadena to undertake economic
development projects that develop industry and cultivate community.

Ambassador Spotlight

Ethan Nguyen, Owner, Batteries Plus Bulbs - Fairmont Pkwy

My name is Ethan and I am the proud owner of Batteries Plus Bulbs and father of three beautiful
girls. At Batteries Plus Bulbs we have an array of batteries, light bulbs/fixtures, and services such
as cell phone repair and cutting car keys/programming key fobs. I aim to bring back customer
service of the good old days, like service with a smile and doing what’s right. We even install
most auto batteries for free! I want a place where customers are treated correctly and not
like numbers. My customers typically come in with problems and leave with a solution. Batteries
Plus Bulbs is your local business with a national brand.

My background has always been customer service, but before this business I was a respiratory
therapist along with my wife. I had never been in sales or owned a business before. Batteries Plus Bulbs encourages their
owners to become a part of your local chamber and I know exactly why. When I first joined the chamber, I was very shy,
didn’t want to talk to anyone, didn’t know anyone, and I wasn’t sure what I was doing there. After becoming a member
about a year ago, I can honestly say that the chamber has helped me tremendously. Not only are they customers of mine,
they’ve taught me how to speak in public, they’ve taught me how to network, and they’ve showed me how valuable the
chamber can be to starting a business. I can honestly say that it isn’t a chore to go to meetings or volunteering your time
to help with the chamber because of the relationships I’ve built.

So if you ever need advice on joining the chamber or to see what the chamber can do, you’re always welcome to come
talk to me at Batteries Plus Bulbs in Pasadena.

Business We applaud these individuals, organizations, and firms that have renewed their
Honor Roll financial commitment to the growth of our community through their continued
investment in the chamber. We appreciate each and every one of you.

The vision for IMPACT Pasadena Mentorship is to elevate the vision
and expectation of servant leadership through the testimony and
example of successful servant leaders in our community. Each
of the participants has a personal mentor, as well as access to
a pool of “next” level mentors that participants can tap into
over the course of IMPACT Pasadena. Outside of one on one
engagement regularly, IMPACT hosted a panel format where
they shared their leadership strengths and advice on things they
wish they’d have known earlier on in their profession. The mentors
are Champions of Leadership who have chosen to be available
to speak life into the mentees, sharing wisdom along the way. This
is another powerful component of the leadership program.

In April, IMPACT Pasadena went behind the scenes and had the opportunity to tour the Office of Emergency Management
and learn the importance of community connectivity especially when disaster strikes. The day included a panel discussion from
leaders within industry, healthcare and emergency management.
Participants also spent time behind the camera after learning media and crisis communication techniques and were put to the
test with case study scenarios for our community!

Enrollment for the 2020 IMPACT Pasadena class will open in August. Be on the look out for more information soon.

meet Tim Pylate

executive director | Armand Bayou Nature Center

Tim Pylate, the Executive Director
of Armand Bayou Nature Center,

is extremely passionate about
his work. Sitting down with

him and learning more about
Armand Bayou, his love for this

organization shines through.
Armand Bayou is undergoing
several renovations to improve
many of the structures. Read on
to find out why Armand Bayou
truly is a hidden gem in Pasadena
that everyone needs to explore!

Q: Many people call Armand Bayou Nature Center the “hidden gem
of Pasadena.” What are some of your current markeing efforts to help
spread the word?
A: We have launched a brand new website, abnc.org, that is
absolutely fantastic. It has some brand new, amazing photographs
and really offers viewers an inside look at what they can expect during
their trip here. We also have a great Facebook page that allows us
to tell stories about what’s going on out here, like the Northern Parula
that just flew in, and we also hatch monarch butterfilesCoOnNliEnReE.NWAThIen
people see that kind of stuff, it getos tchoensmsuseaxmcXiteerdaeaFbicoiisuetsct aolimquinisgaliot ut.

quatem vel ipsantiosR
Q: What can people expect to do when they come for a visit?
A: There is so much to do out here and there is literally something
for everyone to enjoy, such as beautiful hikes, guided photo & trail
tours, canoe or pontoon boat tours, live, hands-on demos, a new
kayak program, summer camps, birding, live animal displays, a bison
viewing platform, an 1800’s farm site and so much more!

Q: Give me an overview on the renovations you are currently
undergoing.
A: The front office building, which is what people will see as soon as
they arrive. We have a brand new education building that we just
installed that’s going to be great for kids this summer at our camps,
we are about to open a brand new children’s library, a new kayak
launch and floating dock, a new trail from our education building
over to the library so the kids can get back and forth easier, a new
planting station and a ton of other improvements.

Q: What are some of the current challenges you face?
A: Being a non-profit organization, fundraising always proves to be
a challenge. We are always looking for support from the various
companies and foundations that are in the area, and from individual
donors. Because we are considered a “best kept secret” its
challenging to get people to come out here and visit.
