Chambergram JULY

2018

On Thursday, June 21st we hosted our Annual Chairman’s James Guthrie
Circle Luncheon, where we had the chance to share chamber
successes and ideas/plans for the future with past leadership. Chairman 2018
A special thank you to all of them for joining us and staying

committed to the work of the chamber.

Message From the Chairman

Dear Chamber Members,

By the time you read this, we’ll be close to the half
way point of the summer and a lot of good things
are happening at your Pasadena Chamber of
Commerce. We had our Chairman’s Circle
Luncheon last month. Fifteen former Chairmen of
the board attended and many memories, as well
as future programs were shared. A new
Leadership program is being developed under the
guidance of incoming Chair, Ken Phelps.

To be continued...Pg.2

1 Pasadena Chamber of Commerce

The purpose is to develop leadership skills for participants
with real life experiences in most aspects of community
involvement. We’ve been encouraged by the City’s Economic
Development Corporation to get this program up and
running and they’ve offered to participate in the process.

The evening of July 12th is the Chamber’s Cultural Arts
Committee’s annual “Theater Night” at the Art Park Players
in Deer Park. This year’s dinner theater performance is “The
Wedding Singer”. In addition to the play, we’ll have a
fantastic auction with lots of packages. Proceeds from the
event go toward two scholarships, one for a San Jacinto
College student and one for a student at the Texas
Chiropractic College. Please come and enjoy the evening with
us and help support these students. Seating is still available, I encourage you to
call the Chamber office and our team will assist you with tickets and information
(show only tickets are also available for only $15).

We’re already half way sold out on booths for this year’s Business Expo at the Pasadena
Convention Center. The Expo will be held the afternoon of August 16th. Changes to the format
have been made the last two years, crowds have been increasing. It’s an excellent way to display
the products or services your company or agency provides. I encourage you to call the Chamber
office for more details.

I encourage you to come to one of our
Membership 101 classes (2nd Thurday of
each month). It’s the best way to learn
about all the services available to you as
a member or prospective member of the
Chamber. I consider these classes to be
like defensive driving. I’ve been to most of
the classes and I learn something new each
time.

Again, it’s my pleasure to serve as this year’s
Chairman of your Chamber board. If there
is any way the staff or myself can be of
service to you, please reach out to us. We
have a wonderful staff, they want to help
you be a success in the Pasadena
Community.

Best,

James Guthrie

Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives Annual
Conference - Media Excellence Awards

Grapevine, TX—Local Chambers from across the
state of Texas convened Tuesday night June 19, 2018
for the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives
(TCCE) Annual Excellence Awards. The awards honor
organizations for exceptional efforts in marketing,
communications and media outreach. Awards are
judged in seven separate categories: Social Media
Marketing and Communications, Brochures, Cham-
ber Map, Magazine or Community Guide, Print /
Electronic News, Outstanding Chamber Website, and
Outstanding Traditional Marketing Campaign.

In the category of Newsletters the Pasadena
Chamber was honored as one the best in Texas,
winning second place for its Chambergram.

In the caterogy of Social Media the Pasadena
Chamber was also honored as a second place
recipient.

“This is an extremely competitive process,” said Page Michel, TCCE Chairman of Communications whose
division oversees the process. “This year we had a large number of entries from around the state and judges
that were attentive to every detail. Rest assured the winners had to demonstrate their best. A victory tonight
truly indicates the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce is one of the best in 2017 in Newsletters & Social Media.”

The overall competition had more than 200 entries from which the best were judged by panels of experts in
the specific field around the state. “This honor demonstrates the phenomenal work done by the Pasadena
Chamber of Commerce organizationally and in the community” said Kelly Hall, 2018 TCCE Board Chairman and
CEO of the Longview Chamber of Commerce.

“One of the primary responsibilities for a chamber is to promote the organization, community and that
chamber’s members,” said Hessel. “By winning this award the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce can be held
up as an example of the best at promoting the chamber, its businesses and providing excellent information to
people in Pasadena.”

Womack, IOM, President/CEO, of the Pasadena
Chamber of Commcerce, has graduated from
the program and has received the recognition of

program, the IOM Graduate Recognition
