2018 Rugged Race Check Presentation James Guthrie

On Friday, May 25th we visited South Shaver Elementary to Chairman 2018
surprise them with a $10,000 check, for being named the

2018 Rugged Race grand recipient. Congratulations!

Message From the Chairman

Dear Chamber Members,

Well Summer is here and we have all kinds of
Chamber Activities taking place. We just had our
Industrial Appreciation Golf Tournament which
raised the most money of any tournament in
recent history. Many thanks to Mark Rush and his
committee for a job well done. The tournament
was followed later in the month by our Industrial
Appreciation Luncheon where BASF Pasadena was
recognized as our Industry of the Year. Our guest
speaker was Reid Ryan, President of Business
Operations – Houston Astros. Congratulations to
BASF Pasadena and thank you to Silver Eagle
Distributers for hosting in your fantastic facility.

1 Pasadena Chamber of Commerce

With proceeds from the golf tournament four scholarships were
awarded to graduating students from Pasadena High Schools and
one each to our two student interns for a total of six scholarships.
Of course Cristina and her wonderful staff made sure the
tournament and luncheon were well planned and enjoyed by
everyone. Ladies, you always outdo yourselves and make us very
proud.

On June 13th, the Chamber’s Pasadena Hispanic Business Council
will host a breakfast workshop at CHI St. Luke’s Health – Patients
Medical Center. The topic of Accessing Health Care for the Insured
and Uninsured will be addressed. A panel of five health care
professionals will lead the discussion on this timely topic. I plan to
be there and hope you will to.

The Chamber’s Cultural Arts Committee will host their annual Theater Night July 12th
at the Art Park Players facility in Deer Park. Dining before the play is an option and this
year’s presentation will be “The Wedding Singer”. This event has grown each year and
funds raised provides scholarships for a student at San Jacinto College and a student at the Texas
Chiropractic College.

The Chamber is searching for a Member Services Coordinator to join an award-winning team that prides
itself in excellence and customer service. If you know someone that would be interested, please tell them
to contact Cristina at the Chamber offices.

Please remember we have several ways for you to engage with your Chamber. Each month on the
second Thursday at 8:30 am we have
Membership 101. This is a one-hour program
that gives you an entire overview of the services
offered by the Chamber to help you promote
your business or agency. We have several active
committees that give you a chance to work with
others that have similar interests and concerns.
Committee participation is one of the best ways
to personally get involved with your Chamber
and make a difference.

As always, if I may be of service to you please
don’t hesitate to call.

Enjoy your Summer,

James Guthrie

Industrial Appreciation Membership Luncheon
Event Recap

On Thursday, May 24, 2018 over 200 individuals gathered at
Silver Eagle Distributors to not only honor 2018 Industry of the Year;
BASF Pasadena but to also recognize 6 outstanding students and
an opportunity to hear from Houston Astros President of Business
Operations, Reid Ryan.

Scott VanWagner, Site Director of BASF, was present to accept the
2018 Industrial Appreciation recognition awarded by the Pasadena
Chamber of Commerce. The prestigious honor is presented to one
local industry every year since 1995. Past recipients were also
present at the Luncheon.

During the Luncheon attendees had the opportunity to enjoy a
video that captured the essence of what BASF is as an organization. This was made possible by Firefox Video who
produced an excellent synopsis of all that BASF offers to the community.

Student scholarships were made available through funds generated at the Pasadena Chamber’s 2018 Industrial
Appreciation Golf Tournament held May 14, 2018. The scholarships were presented to 4 deserving PISD students.
Each student received a $500 cash scholarship to be applied towards their college expenses. Scholarship recipients
were Isaac Arredondo, Marc Cabrera, Joel Munos, Karen Perales.

Additionally, two scholarships were also presented to students
interning at the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce through their
internship program. A partnership program between the chamber
and the Pasadena Independent School District. Recipients of these
scholarships were Anahi Briones and Angela Padilla.

The honorary event ended with an informative and motivational
presentation from Reid Ryan, President of Business Operations for
the Houston Astros. Ryan’s presentation gave attendees a complete
explanation of the structure for the Houston Astros, as well as
highlighted the team’s key players and their plans to continue
building on their team to build greatness.

“We get it, people like greatness,” said Ryan “...that is why we chose Never Settle as our tagline this year, our team
will continue to work towards being great and continue working hard to keep winning many titles.”

The Chamber thanked Ryan for being their guest speaker by presenting him with a very special gift in collaboration
with PISD. A one of a kind painting designed specially for Ryan by Emilio Recio, a Sam Rayburn High School Senior
who was named a Scholastic National American Vision Award Recipient and soon to be recognized at Carneige Hall
in NYC.

“Emilio was the perfect fit for this occasion,” said Cristina Womack, President of the Pasadena Chamber of
Commerce. “...like the Houston Astros, he too earned his own championship title as the 2018 HLSR Grand
Champion Artist through a painting that sold for $225,000. We are so proud of having such a talented student in
our city.”
