WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS

LIGHTING THE CHRIST CANDLE

PRELUDE Morning Prayer Jones

(John Michael Jones, Keyboard)

*CALL TO WORSHIP (from the Psalter) Mark Dotson, Liturgist

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
Let your glory be over all the earth!

For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
So great is God’s steadfast love toward those who love him.

*HYMN A Race to Run

Verse 1

Ahead of us a race to run
So looking at the past no more
Forgetting what has gone before
We fix our eyes on God the Son
With eager diligence we train
As for the prize ahead we strain
Until at last our course is done.

Verse 2

He calls us now to run the race
Discarding every weight and load
To speed our way along the road
The path we tread the way of grace
And though the journey may be long
The grace of God will keep us strong

Until we stand before His face.

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O Loving Creator, we see the world of nature around us,
and we know that You are God.

Forgive our desires
to create our own lives, to re-create You, to always be in control.

Forgive our efforts
to manage others’ lives, to overpower or undermine them.

Forgive our clenched fists
of anger and resentment, of fear and revenge.

Forgive our attempts
to blame others, to ignore our responsibilities, to resist accountability.

Forgive us, we pray,
that we may open our hands to receive Your grace,
through the affirming love of our Savior, Jesus…

(Silent confession…)
In Christ’s name, we pray. AMEN.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

*RESPONSE The Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father,
And to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be
World without end. Amen. Amen.

*THE PEACE OF CHRIST
Friends, may the peace of Christ be with you.
And also with you.

THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

This is the Lord’s Table. It is made ready for those who have been baptized; for those who love
Jesus Christ and want to love Him more. Baptized children who are being nurtured and instructed
in the faith are invited to partake of this holy meal. This is the feast of God for the people of God.

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise…

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

THE LORD’S PRAYER (in unison)

“Our Father…” (debts/debtors)

BREAKING THE BREAD & POURING THE CUP

Please eat the Bread when it is served to you, celebrating your personal faith in Jesus Christ. Then
hold the Cup until everyone is served, so that we may drink together, celebrating the unity we share
as the body of Christ.

THE COMMUNION OF THE FAITHFUL

As The Lord’s Supper is served and the music played, receive the grace of Christ in this Sacrament,
confess sin and brokenness, seek reconciliation with God and neighbor and trust in Jesus Christ for
cleansing and renewal.

COMMUNION MUSIC

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Apostles’ Creed – 3rd Century AD

I believe in God the Father Almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;

he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead;

he ascended into heaven,

and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
