JTA reported.

Rotem Amitai, 43, died at an Israeli hospital on Aug. 13.
The mother of three contracted the disease in late March after
a sick passenger boarded a flight; she was hospitalized and
placed into an induced coma, The Jerusalem Post reported
at the time. She had been on a respirator and had reportedly
suffered brain damage.

The Times of Israel reported that Amtai had only received one
measles vaccine shot instead of the recommended two.

The Health Ministry in Israel ordered local airlines to
inoculate their staff in late April, prompting more than 250 El Al
crew members to be vaccinated.

COMMUNITY NEWS

The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia
mobilizes financial and volunteer resources to
address the communities’ most critical priorities
locally, in Israel and around the world.

Building Community Through Soccer in
Elkins Park

KIM DECKER, coordinator of the Kehillah of Old York
Road, stands at the edge of a huge expanse of manicured
grass and makes a grand gesture with her arms.

“ is is our eld!” she hollers, her voice echoing o the
trees ringing the soccer eld. “ is is where we play!”

You can hardly blame Decker for her excitement. In
a few short weeks on the Jewish Federation of Greater
Philadelphia’s Mandell Campus in Elkins Park, the Sunday
Soccer League will begin its 21st year — and this league for
kids ages pre-K through ninth grade is poised to hold its
biggest season ever.

e intramural league’s popularity owes something to
its inclusivity. Unlike so many local soccer leagues, which
hold Saturday games, the Kehillah (community) league
plays on Sundays, allowing a wider range of Jews to partici-
pate. Teams are co-ed, and there’s also a special needs team.

Best of all, Decker said, it’s fun.
“No one is turned away for lack of funds or lack of
ability,” she said. “What’s really special about our league
is you get all kinds of Jews — and some non-Jews — from
all over, playing soccer together. We’re here to have a good
time and build community.”

e Sunday Soccer League’s program runs September
through November. For more information and to register,
visit kehillahsoccer.org or contact kehillahsoccer@gmail.
com. And stay tuned for the Kehillah of Old York Road’s
new spring sport: ultimate Frisbee.

sex therapist.

We also had the privilege to sit down with author Amanda Stern to talk
about living with an undiagnosed panic disorder, how the disappearance
of Etan Patz shaped her world view and all about her wildly successful
