Quarter RECAP
WAKANDA FOREVER
On Saturday February 24th, we hosted our Annual Movie
Premiere Fundraiser. This year, we featured Black Panther - the
most anticipated film of 2018.
Much to the delight of the sold-out crowd, the Digicel Imax
cinema was transformed into a scene out of the movie itself.
Everything from the African-inspired décor, to the drum and
dance pre-show, to the handcrafted African jewellery on sale,
contributed to the rave reviews received.
Having partnered with so many amazing sponsors, we were also
able to provide all patrons with complimentary wine and cheese,
yogurt, fruit cocktails and coffee. Door prizes were awarded to
the best dressed male, female and couple in African wear as well.
This event was definitely one for the books!

ROTA-OLYMPICS
Alongside the Rotaract Clubs of Piarco (UWI) and Central Port of Spain, we executed a day of competitive camaraderie
and fellowship for the Rotaract Clubs of Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) to celebrate our 50th Anniversary.
The energy and chants of the East Beast, North West and Central South were simply euphoric as they challenged each
other in classics like tug-o’-war to newer events such as an impromptu dance pass and “late for meeting”.
In the end the North West team triumphed with East in second place and Central South in third.

ROTARACT TURNS 50
On March 13th, we joined the world in observing World Rotaract Day. This year we commemorated the 50th anniversary of this great
organisation.
And of course, in true POS West style, we celebrated this momentous occasion all week long.
We fellowshipped over dinner at Ruby Tuesdays Restaurant, jointly attended the meeting of the Rotary Club of Central Port of Spain with
our sponsor club, featured guest speaker Voice at our general club meeting, danced the night away at the Rotary Club of Port of Spain
West Poor Man’s Dinner, and finally ended the week at Breakfast and Worship on Sunday 18th.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
We executed one of our signature projects - The Annual Hazel
Medina Hamper Distribution Drive, by embarking upon a six-
week food collection drive.
The drive culminated in 17 hampers of non-perishable food
items and toiletries being distributed to 17 different homes in
need, including the mother of the late Hazel Medina; our
club’s Charter President.
Not only did each hamper recipient receive groceries to last
quite some time, but they were also able to experience the
love and cheer that Port of Spain West always has to share!

CLEAN FLAME
Annually, as a Club Service initiative, our Interactors, Newly-Pinned Rotaractors and
Prospectives are tasked with coming together to deliver a service project that makes
a difference in our community.
This year, with the help of other Rotaractors, friends and family, the club was able to
gather and remove 59 bags (750lbs) of garbage from Chagville Beach, Chaguaramas.
After much hard work, all involved then joined around the bonfire to roast
marshmallows, fellowship and unwind!

#RockYourSocks
We not only rock our socks in honour of World Down
Syndrome Day, but we also donated all Sergeant fees
collected for the month of March to the Down Syndrome
Family Network which provides families with the tools
they need to become educated and strong advocates of
children and adolescents with Down Syndrome.

FAR FROM FINISHED
“As long as you’ve got purpose, passion and
will to work hard, you can achieve anything
you want in this life.”
This was the sentiment echoed by reigning
International Soca Monarch - Aaron “Voice”
St. Louis, as he shared with us his journey
to success at our Think B.I.G. Series.
Quarter RECAP
REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE
For all of Quarter 3, we practiced sustainable living.
Enlightened on the importance of recycling, members were
moved to save all beverage containers used within the 3 month
period.
The numerous bags of recyclables were then gathered and
disposed of at an ICareTT bin.
There are over 80 ICareTT bins nationwide. Be sure to make use
of one closest to you!

DEAR FUTURE ROTARACTORS…
As an International Service project, we buried a chest filled
with individually penned letters of advice and encouragement
to future members of our club.
The time capsule was concealed in the backyard of the
Tritscher Home – where we frequently visit the elderly.
The aim is to have our Rotaractors, 20 years from now,
“Reverse D’ Thing”, read of our experiences and hopefully
remain inspired to continue putting service above self and
making a difference in the world.
